The range of discussions on this forum have become very narrow.
Add that to two sad and lonelies permeating every topic for their own agenda ( no longer thank feck ) and that is enough reasons for people to stop wanting to post on this forum.

I just see two camps on this forum and each are biased in their views and unwilling to be moved by any debate or change their opinions about things. For example i have never seen Melanus or Northern Lad disagree over anything. I agree with lots of their views but how can you take their arguments seriously even when they might be right when they will never ever consider another point of view.

It must be hell for you trying to talk behind that mask. Kind of tight on you, isn't it? You know, you just can't get those colourful words out behind that disguise, can you?
How about another letter from Gnarley?

There is a fair amount of vitriol on the HR forum ( which is my main stamping ground ),but rather more banter, light or robust. You occasionally get that on here but it usually turns toxic very quickly. We have lost Lampus and sibaroni in recent months and if you go back a year or two Dr J and golfjudge. I know all those were vaguely or definitely of the left so I imagine there will be more abuse from the usual suspects but tbf I suspect we have lost a number ,who could reasonably be placed on the right, who were capable of arguing rationally. Eo,though he could be quite unpleasant, was one imo,as was Ronnie when not too stoned. Personally this will be my last post on here. Partly my own fault for giving away too much personal info, but partly because I now despair of the place generally.

There are some peoples views always worth reading and Salmons is one of them. His opinions have integrity because they are not diluted by any prejudice. Unfortunately he is in the minority.

Don't need to be a qualified anything to apply common sense to a situation. Unfortunately few people regardless of their qualifications seem to possess much of it. Take the one who agreed that an occasional panic attack renders someone unable to work. That’s a beauty if ever I heard one.
As for forwarding lack of concentration as a valid reason for skiving off work. I simply don’t understand why anyone medically qualified would entertain that excuse for second. Lack of concentration indeed. Don’t give him any money that’ll sharpen up his concentration no end.
He can’t concentrate, but he can answer post after post on here without making any mistakes which puts that one to bed straight away

TEST POST - I don't think people should be allowed to abuse the benefits system.
(Any of our left wing comrades opposing this viewpoint who feel unable to debate this point, report away!!)

What post got deleted SS. Was it when you were really rude to the doctor. I believe he claimed you were stealing money off the tax payer with a dificult to dignose illness which some people thought was not severe enough to prevent you working?
Is Dr C not entitled to have that opinion?

So it was Salmon Spray who took to reporting people who oppose his view on entitlements. That's gratitude for you in modern Britain!
I see his blood pressure is up now as well, is there no end to this poor old eggs ailments.
The tale of Salmon Spray is an advert for tax avoidance. Why on earth should people fund these chancers?

Didn't you know he's one of the good guys on here?
Defrauding the taxpayer maybe, but he's still a good guy.
Unlike the disgusting Chippie in Whitedogpoo.
Now he really is a bad apple and rotten to the core.

Do you remember Dr Crippen when we were discussing tax avoidance by rich individuals. Unless I am mistaken your view was that there is no such thing as tax avoidance. You were happy that they were acting within the law as it stood.
Don't you think its a bit hypocritical then that you would rather attack not so rich individuals who have not done anything wrong within the law as it stands.
Don't you think its hypocritical that you refuse to bring morals into the argument about tax avoidance at the top but you moralise over individuals who are a lot less well off.

Tax avoidance is perfectly legal. Everybody who takes out an ISA is avoiding paying tax If I fill in my tax returns truthfully then I am not committing any offence morally or otherwise
In contrast if I went down to a job centre and claimed that I can't work because of mental problems, and then display on a public forum that I am perfectly capable of work then I was lying. Many people who have lied to obtain benefit have been prosecuted, and many more have yet to be found out and prosecuted.
Can't you see the moral difference between telling the truth and telling lies?
paddletoe, No hypocrisy at all.Tax avoidance is perfectly legal. Everybody who takes out an ISA is avoiding paying taxIf I fill in my tax returns truthfully then I am not committing any offence morally or otherwiseIn contrast if I went down to a job
I don't see the simarity between tax avoidance by big companies and individuals on the one hand and people using tax free isa's on the other hand. I could be wrong but I doubt anyone has voluntarily handed back money they saved through having an isa the same way big companies have been shamed into giving money back.
If anyone is wrongly claiming benefits they are prosecuted. Until such time they are not doing anything wrong.

That no one would feel the need to hide the fact they are using an isa in the same way companies and individuals would like to hide the fact the are avoiding paying taxes would show they are not similar.

Paddletoe, There is a clear distinction between tax avoidance which is legal, and tax evasion which is not.
There is also a clear distinction between someone who is incapable of working and someone who is fit to work but claims that they are too ill to work.
I see nothing wrong in tax avoidance; the law is framed to allow it. I also see little wrong in someone who is incapable of working being supported by the state.
Your problem here is that you refuse to tell one situation from another and see all benefit claimers as genuine. Then in the same breath you view all tax avoiding by companies as tax evasion.

First post back after an absence and you were throwing the insults about.

have the number of forumites dropped below 'critical mass' from which the forum cannot recover
is there a silent killer going round making gratuitous complaints about forumites
or could it be the moderators themselves are seeking to eliminate this forum
they may consider that constant complaints from forumites about others make the forum more trouble than its worth
or is it deemed that the only agency that is allowed to address the public are the agents of politically correcness and not other members of the public
the loss of both mr eternal and menelaus must be regarded as a serious loss to this forum, and in both cases the loss is totally gratuitous
