Everyone is talking about when Gordon Brown removed the 10% tax band.

But NOONE has mentioned that at the same time, he dropped income tax from 22% to 20%

OK he should have increased the personal allowances to make up for the removal of the 10% tax band. But lets give the guy some credit for taking us to a 20% basic income tax rate.

At the same time he was inventing all those other taxes and saddling future generations with mountains of debt to pay for us to live beyond our means?

Not a chance.

It is Gordon Bean we are talking about. He is a man who could do no good according to most on the right!!!

But remember he did increase the personal allowance by £600 that year if I am not mistaken and probably increased working tax credits as well.

Well the personal allowance is why Miliband's idea is so idiotic.  The allowance is rising rapidly at the moment, more than compensating those that lost out in the 10% removal.  But no.  Miliband wants to give them an extra £2 a week.

as in the case of the 50p rate its more for symbolic reasons
Report Java February 15, 2013 4:01 PM GMT
Symbolic my backside.  The 50p rate was purely so they could make political capital if the Tories correctly cut it.

What about Neville Chamberlain - the tory who kissed Hitlers arse ?

brown should not have bailed out the banks he should have nationalised them

he  is also the one who deregulated the banks thus enabling them to create the crisis we are now in

but you aint seen nothing yet

Wurzel

Paradoxically Chamberlain saved us. Only now is history beginning to recognise that fact. By he way he was leader of a national coalition.
