Politicians are keeping Plod on a leash.

Only yesterday Blair was pleading the bankers' case.

Once we start charging bankers, politicians will be next.

Concentrate on a few Housing Benefit claimants, while the vultures bleed the economy dry.

Although it's taken 4 years for these arrests. Initially, during the last government's tenure there didn't seem to be that much 'enthusiasm' to going down that road. I think the public mood has progressively dictated it over the course of the last 3 years in Ireland.

The big question is , were they just inept and/or greed or corrupt? Anglo Irish and the giving out of the bank's own resources to certain individuals who would then use that money to shore up the bank's shares, well, to me, that looks like fraud. Not sure if in the UK there are any similar situations.

It's going to be very interesting to hear the accused's defence on this and if convicted, what will the sentences be, in a country, Ireland, that has an image of not being strict enough on white collar crime, up to now. if Anglo Irish was American, I think we'd be looking at very lengthy prison sentences. To be fair, I think in the UK too.

The first "inquiry" in Ireland was the sort of whitewash we had over here.

Thankfully the US and now Ireland are avoiding the "under the carpet" treatment that our complicit politicians favour.

The idea that public servant's, ( that is anyone paid with the public purse ),are there to serve the public, disappeared with Blair and New Labour. These day's public servant's just seem to help themselve's.
