18 posts on the RIP thread for Devilfish.
At one time the forum would have been inundated with anecdotes from betfarians who had met the great man.

They pretty much killed the Community Games, made it borderline impossible for the recreational regulars to get a game where you weren't sat at a table with a load of multi tabling Eastern Europeans, then killed the forum by just randomly deleting posts and entire threads, even though they broke none of their rules.

The forum was essential reading back in the days when you would get 100+ posts a night every night. Does anyone even play on Betfair any more ? Are they still using I-Poker ?

Haven't even logged onto the poker client for a good 18 months,

No. It died when the software died -that's all there is to it. I-Poker & OnGame are both cr@p.

Those were the days..mandylou,mavis,duffs..highstack ..dozens of others..50 odd forumites used to turn up for a private forum game at duffs house in Basingstoke...and another couple I can remember in London.

Young guns wanting advice about jacking in Uni to play full time - must be a few "where did it all go wrong" stories out there.

Loads of hot air and testosterone  "my dad can fight your dad"

Those were the boom days...What happened ?...Loads of things..

Overkill
Became boring playing night after night
Software problems
Rake/fees too high
Everybody got better - edges got smaller

Cheers

Just a little story that still makes me smile ..

Back in the day my 6 year old daughter used to like to watch the cards being dealt.. (they used to be dealt 1 at a time)...she used to cheer when the first Ace hit...

Boom - Ace of spades hits...HURRAY!! she screamed excitedly...quickly followed by the 6 of diamonds. She looked at me in disgust, turns and leaves the room..

"Where are you going?" I ask ..

She didn't stop or turn round, just shouted back over her shoulder... "Bad kicker!".

I remember those good old days, Johnny. There were a few forum team tournaments too. I used to love the old Cryptologic poker site - trying to qualify for the Caribbean poker classic each year.

Betfair killed it when they got greedy and wanted their own Poker room, followed by all the other bookies. Now there are far too many poker rooms and the number of players/games just aren't there. Have to go to Stars/Full Tilt which I find all a bit soulless.

There were so many good threads on here and some top class players posting frequently.

The forum has unfortunately mirrored the path of Betfair Poker...

The mistakes Betfair made year after year on their poker product are in some cases of staggering ineptitude.

Betfair Poker could easily have been the third largest poker room on the net but so many early open goals were missed and too many of their own feet were shot.  To see what the mighty Betfair Poker has now become fills me with sadness.

This forum was never a place to discuss poker, it was always about who had the biggest ego.

Helmuthian Folds is correct, Betfair purchased flawed software with a decent userbase. I said at the time, they should have developed their own software from the bottom up and used the Pokerchamps players for liquidity. They could have surpassed Stars and Full Tilt with the right stability and support. iirc Betfair had resizeable windows before any other site. It wasn't much but it was innovative. It also didn't take long for other sites to implement the same.

In fairness they threw money at us and we honestly didn't know how easy it was. I was rock type (although still a bit looser than 5LEEPWALKER lol) and still made a decent profit. Only when I moved to Stars and had to redeposit did I know that it was a lot easier on Pokerchamps. A $1.50 game on Stars is now a higher standard than a $20 game ever was on Betfair Pokerchamps.

Nowadays we have tracking software, ICM tools, and many other bits of software to help our games. You either have to move with the times or give up. New markets open all the time though and fish are still fish.

I still play Betfair a lot, I think there's massive value even though I-Poker sucks for support and userability. I love the game even more than ever but I've worked very hard on it and I use some of the tools I mentioned above. I still make decent pocket money from the game so the game is still beatable.

Poker itself is dying a rightful death, so probably just this place reflects that - the game is an awful degenerate waste of time for most players, so RIP poker in general (IMHO)

I simply don't understand why all the Betting firms use this useless system for their poker?
I went on this morning and there's no Super turbo's and hardly any Turbos.
There were 5 tornys already going and about 100 players over the 5 tornys!
Who wants to sit there all day playing a $1/$10 slow torny all day-no thanks
Boring useless rubbish games that take 2 days to complete.
I just don't understand i-poker changing from some quite good software to this rubbish, why would you commit poker suicide like this, they must know no-one is playing?
Why not go back to the old system.

I agree 100% milo222.

What was the software used before ipoker? Whatever it was, I certainly liked it better than the dross they have now!

Looked back and page 68 has posts covering 1 week whilst this page covers more than 2 years.
Think that answers the OPs question.
