You know, Ive said this before but it makes me sick to my stomach that no-one from Betfair comes on here to communicate with its player base. If you look on 2+2, all the other sites have reps that answer ppls questions/queries,they dont just simply ignore them like these shower of bastards do. Betfair do not deserve our custom full stop! In fact I'm tempted to open a thread on 2+2 about Betfair and its non willingness to communicate with its players. Its totally shocking and despicable how they are treating us, the ones who contribute to r4ke. I mean what does it take to get a single response on here? Do I have to make a racist comment or something?
I mean it when I say this, I will NEVER deposit on this site again until they start communicating with us instead of being ignorant ****s!!! RANT OVER

I look once in a blue moon, possibly less than I play on BF now.

JC, if communication is such a massive problem for you, just move to one of the sites that communicates, although the grass isn't always greener.  Personally, I couldn't care less about whether FT or stars reps post on the forums I read and I'm not overly fussed about the cult of celebrity that surrounds the sponsored pros either.

Highest fees can be offset by poorer players...
Report chipfire227 December 22, 2012 11:44 PM GMT
Higher fees are offset to an extent by poorer players, at the same time you need the traffic. The STT's on 888 are every bit as weak as those on Ongame if not weaker, and the fees are cheaper, the problem is that you can be sat around waiting ages for games to fill.

When Betfair switched to Ongame their traffic problem was resolved, but they appear to be back to square one again. Games at $25+  virtually never fill, and even the $20 games are slow to fill now. The $10 10 man and 30 man games fill only because you have 2 bots constantly logged in.

The other major bugbear is the absolutely Godawful customer service. You wait weeks sometimes for a half decent response to your mails. It's not even just the poker product, I queried a racing multiples settlement last week and am still waiting for a coherent reply.

Finally got a response fron Customer Service about my permed multiples query. Essentially the gadge says to me they use a type of settlement called dutching and encloses a link to Oddschecker website where its explained.

So I mails him back and says fair enough, shouldn't this be explained somewhere on your website as its a different form of settlement to every other bookmaker in the UK.

He mails me back and says I will pass the comment on, but in future can you make sure you understand the market before having a bet with us- the cheeky fker. Laugh

I mails him again and says the reason I had to contact you in the first place is because the settlement rules aren't anywhere on your site that I can see them, and you yourself have had to send me an external link to Oddschecker for an explanation. Can you list all other fking external websites where your rules might be supplied, just in  case I'm thinking of ever having another bet with you ?

p.s. My next door neighbour Alan is on the dole. He is also a complete c*nt. Can you send him an application form for your gaff ?
Report HarryHatless December 24, 2012 9:05 PM GMT
Really?  They use dutching to settle permed multiples?  I can remember a small handful of independent bookies used to use that method but I thought it had died out completely in the 80s.
Report chipfire227 December 24, 2012 11:34 PM GMT
Yeah, it was a new one on me, and I've worked for a bookmaker and come from a bookmaking family. Their 2nd email states :

Picking multiple selection in a race to bet is known as Dutching, and the resulting decimal price if one of the selections wins can be obtained simply from various calculators available on the web such as at .

Like I said I then pointed out it would be helpful if this information was on their site somewhere. And got the reply :

I have passed your suggested improvements onto our Development Team to consider going forward from here. Further to this, please familiarise yourself with the rules of each market that you bet on because they can differ from other companies.

Obviously the patronising get hasn't supplied a link to the location on the Betfair site where their multiple rules relating to Dutching are explained, and I can't see one having spent a long time looking, but apparently this is my fault, and I should know they operate a different settlement of permed multiples to everyone else ? Dunno, maybe I'm being picky but that reply comes across as really insulting to me given I'm meant to be the customer.

Was the same when I queried the way they were calculating Leaderboard points for the Hot Streak promo. I sent a spreadsheet to them with results for every game I played that week, and a breakdown of where I felt they were going wrong. I got a mail back stating :
Report chipfire227 December 24, 2012 11:38 PM GMT
"Please be advised that tournaments are counted only when they have finished, not when the players have been eliminated from the actual tournaments.

This can of course cause some delay in points updating and players could get a bit confused with regards to which point need to be and have been added."
Report chipfire227 December 24, 2012 11:43 PM GMT
The suggestion was I had got a bit confused and wasn't capable of calculating my own points total. I mailed back pointing out the Terms and Conditions of the promotion were the exact opposite of what I was being told and actually state

The leaderboard will use the start date of a Sit & GO tournament to determine which block that tournament belong to.
The leaderboard will use the start date of a Sit & Go tournament when crediting tournament points. For example, if you enter a Sit & Go tournament within the promotional period but the tournament finishes outside the promotional period, then any points awarded counts towards the leaderboard.

Oh yeah they said, you are right, we dont even know our own rules, let us send it to our Poker Team to have a look at that again for you. That was on the 14th December. Haven't heard from them since. Sad

What does the term to Dutch or Dutching mean?
Updated 31/08/2011 01.55 PM
Dutching is sharing the risk of losing across a number or runners by backing (or laying) more than one selection in a race or event.
This technique usually involves betting on the stronger selections in a field of runners, creating a position of profit on the runners that are most likely to win.
The process calculates the correct stake to place on each selection so that the return is the same if any of them wins.
The strategy can pay dividends when gamblers successfully reduce the potential winners of an event to a select few from the field.
Dutching calculators that perform the mathematics behind the system are freely available on the internet.
Dutching works on the Back side as well as on the Lay side, also called "Reverse Dutching".

Dutching explain on match odds market (Football):
Selections: Home team win - Draw - Away team win
Normally you would bet on one of the three outcomes, e.g. home team to win. You would win your stake plus your profit if the home team wins. If the home team doesn’t win you will lose your stake.
With Dutching you can spread your risk by betting on more than one outcome. In this case you would bet some of your stake on the home team to win and some of your stake for a draw. The advantage of Dutching is that you have a higher chance of winning, as you spread your risk of losing. In the above example you would win if the home team wins or if there is a draw.
The success behind the Dutching technique is also depending on the calculations on how you spread your stake between the runners.

Dutching calculation example (Stake divided according to the chances of winning):
Home team to win: back odds 2,34
Draw: back odds 3.86
This would mean that the home team would have a 42.7% (100/2.34) chance to win and the draw 25.9% (100/3.86) to happen.
If you back on both outcomes your chance of winning would be 42.7% + 25.9% = 68.6%.
If your total stake would be £20, you need to spread the stake according to the chance of winning of each selection:
Home team to win = £20 * (42.7% / 68.6%) = £12.49
Draw =  £20 * (25.9% / 68.6%) = £7.55
As result your £20 stake will give you a return of around £29 if the outcome of the match will be a home win or a draw. In any case, if the away team wins you will lose your stake.

What a load of crap these Christmas Cracker promo MTT's are by the way. 924 runners tonight, and if you make it to the final table and finish 10th after 5 hours play, you get a whopping 50 bucks. The way the blinds/clock has been set up every night you would think it was WSOP.

God bless anyone who has played all 20 of them to get the freeroll tickets. Can you imagine spending all of the Christmas and New Year holidays playing dollar ****fests to get tickets to another 3 ? They have actually recouped about a third of the added prize money on entry fees an all. Laugh
