I am not sure about how the low is won. My interpretation is that the lowest hand wins i.e. a847 beats 2345 on a 2464j board even though the 2345 hand is a straight low, but is this correct? The book I am reading says that straights and flushes 'do not count against the low'.

Thanks, lee, for the reply, but could you tell me why this is so? What i have read says that the best hands to have are a2, a3 hands etc. So why do they say that if it goes by the lowest other card you have?

There is only a low hand if 3 of the delt are 8 or lower and not paired. You should not even play a hand if you don't have 2 low cards If the board reads a2345 the best low hand is a2 high is 67 If the board reads a 2 8 k j the best low is 34 in your hand high is q 10 All you need to think is you need the next lowest card and hope who your Up against is I pip higher our your split the pot . If you start with no low hand you are only drawing to the high you are giving them a Freeroll to half the pot and the high It is the best action game |

I see what your asking. It easy if you only have two low cards If you have 3low cards lets say ace king 4 5 So you low cards a 4 5 If the board is ace 2 8 high high your low is ace on board 2 (4-5 out of your hand) 8 on board so the other person will win the low with any 3 as that is the Next lowest card. So 3-7 would win Remember this if your best low is delt it is in everyone's hand And if you only have 2 low cards and one of them is delt you need 4 low cards delt or you have no low hand |

I think I have made the mistake of counting the low from the wrong end! I thought that if I had an ace then I would beat someone else with only a two no matter what else they had. I will play some cheap games to see if I have got the hang of it. |

The 3-7 on the ace 2 8 flop does NOT beat 45 for low!! ace 234 ds is NOT the best starting hand!
No where near to it!! ace ace 23 ds is the best! Also DO play high only hands at certain times! The best piece of advice is NOT to draw to a hand that can only win half the pot on the flop, eg you have ace 27 king and the flop is 689 don't chase the low! |

I did not say 3-7 was the best just it would win that hand
annie was asking how the low was won ,not how to play.. I gave a starter and easy way to play abc thats all and aa23 is a top starting but a234 double suited is better |

Mate the best starting hand is aa23ds lol! It is 67% v a234! You musn't play cash games or if you do it must be the 10c-10c variety. One last piece of advice for you annie is not to get attached to hands eg say you have ace ace 2 king, the flop comes ace hearts 2 hearts and 8 clubs. When you bet this flop and get raised you need to insta fold it!

A2345 is nut low also has possibility that it is the high too. Straight or flush does not nullify the low. Sounds like an american book. A few low stakes on here. Only issue I've found is instead of playing any 2 they play any 4. But omaha is always a game of the nuts isn't it? Good luck |
