Hi guys,

There's one guy who's been annoying everyone,

as an example of why I want to block him... his most recent post

LIKEMYOUNG: "MY SCATTERED PEOPLE WHO LIVE BEYOND THE RIVERS OF ETHIOPIA WILL COME TO PRESENT THEIR OFFERINGS"

He doesn't talk to anyone, he is a troll who uses the chat to abuse people, threaten to shoot them, talk about drug use etc.

I can't see an option to block their posts from being shown up, can anyone help?

report chat to betfair, email them, maybe take screen shot or say what time it occurred
Report chipfire227 May 17, 2012 7:05 PM BST
If we are talking about that little chat box in the lobby page its always been used by racists, the sexually desperate, doleites, and the seriously delusional.

This fella just sounds like a paranoid schizophrenic, which makes him one of the more likeable types 0n there in my book.
Report jc30 May 17, 2012 10:38 PM BST
Ive never seen you post on there Chip Wink, only kidding. Yes i agree, and also there is someone who gives his so-called tips on the horse racing and when his horse loses, he says he had the other one in a forecast! I dont think he's ever lost a race Laugh
Report chipfire227 May 18, 2012 7:09 PM BST
I sometimes read it when visiting the lobby to register for games. I think I even posted on there last week to pass on messages for rubyalfie and feedmesenor, though I dont as a rule.

Obviously theres some lonely folk on there who chat to people and they are completely harmless.

The racing tipster, Tincan, is completely delusional and probably a compulsive gambler, but a small army of doleites seem to encourage him. He really should seek help, because he does seem to be on there 24/7 tipping horses in every race. His other trick is to say he'slaying a favourite for £200, then when it dances in, claim to have greened up in running and made a profit.

I have to say I've also seen some pretty obnoxious stuff posted on there - virulent racism, threats to kill etc, and it dont look good whenitthe first thing every new visitor to Betfair sees.

I have mentioned it a couple of times at Q and A's but think they are happy for it to be self-regulatory.
Report trave123 May 19, 2012 9:35 PM BST
why dont u regulate it chip you could maybe tip a few winners yourself  and maybe help the dolites into work or maybe even point the sexually desperate towards a few dating sites etc as for the delusional your expertise in this field would probably go a long way to helping tin can reach his millions just as long as it doesent interfere with your job of improving the poker site which in the last 6 months has gone from bad 2 unbelievably  bad keep up the good work your doing you will get there in the end but so probably will tincan

I was having a conversation with a demented cuckoo who claimed he won 40k on a 500 buyin from Cuba. I had a blast...

Unfortunately the answer to the question is no. That needs to be changed.

I think the 2 posts from trave pretty much emphasise my point about the standard of the crack on there.I defy anyone to make sense of his second post on this thread.

Like I said if people want to chat on there rather than Facebook or MSN then let them crack on.But as a couple of people have said, some of the stuff that gets posted on there ( and I only ever see odd comments when forced to visit the page to register ) is absolutely disgusting. I've made the point several times to Betfair Heads of Department that this is the first page new players see, and God knows what impression they must get.

Given a lot of the people using it regularly would appear to be non poker players, I dont see why they dont either shut it down altogether, or stick it somewhere away from the front page.
Report trave123 May 20, 2012 3:47 PM BST
put more time into telling them how bad the poker is rather than bothering about a chat window we would all get our tickets etc on time for wsop trial games etc plenty more things to be worried about than a chat window what u think  ps apologies for the grammar and punctuation in advance

There are a boatload of things wrong with the site. There hasn't been a Q and A session for 6 months, so not really sure what you expect me to do.

Contrary to what you seem to think it isnt " my job" to sort out the poker site. I actually work as a Wholesale Analyst for a global communications company, as well as doing a fair bit of voluntary work with young offenders.

After the Q and A next month, I am absolutely 100% willing to stand aside and let someone else have a crack at being Forum Rep. It's fabulous using up your annual leave making an 8 hour round trip to sit in a room full of people who aren't remotely likely to act on anything you have to say. Why dont you put yourself forward ? I'm sure all your mates on chit chat would endorse you. Then six months down the line when absolutely nothing has improved we can all blame you. Laugh

no ty they woudnt understand my accent but i honestly thought they at least pay you for your time to go down there
Report chipfire227 May 20, 2012 7:10 PM BST
They pay for your travel, and if you have to stop overnight they pay for a hotel. They also bought me a panini and a diet coke once, when the meeting went on for about 7 hours.

So in that respect yes, with them covering your travel and if needed your accomodation, you aren't out of pocket. However, with it being an 8 hour round trip for me, its always at least one day off work, and with this next one being the 4th session, its a tidy chunk of my annual leave gone, on something that seems to have run out of steam.

Its not just the day for the meeting either, I collate all the questions, I type up all the minutes, I chase things up for unhappy players, I did a load of test emails to the Helpdesk then fed back to management, all in my own time.I'm not just going down there and saying the site is shyte, I'm actually taking down the evidence and proving that it's shyte.

It is interesting to go down there and see how things work, but people did say beforehand I was wasting my time. To be honest I even said myself I was wasting my time. While the first couple of meetings felt quite productive, and I felt we achieved something, the last 6 months have been a joke, and to be honest I havent really played much on the site recently.

The bottom line is that for whatever reason they have committed their long term future to Ongame , so you have a skin with crap customer service using a crap network, creating a pretty crap customer experience.

And yes, you are right, in the grand scheme of things the odd bit of racism and the ocassional threat to kill, probably isn't the worst thing about the site, but the fact they allow it to carry on within the front page of their lobby is pretty symptomatic of their whole approach to the poker product imho. You certainly wouldnt see it on the first page you opened every time you logged onto certain other more professional sites.

surely the easiest thing to do is put a little x on the top of chat so we can turn it off?

Personally I can't wait until BWin finally merges with Party and we see the demise of Ongame, the worlds most outdated poker software!. As for the chat box, as well as the racism and threats, you also get saddos sharing with the rest of the poker population on Betfair, that they need a "huge turd" and that they've just "jizzed" all over the computer screen. I mean come on, have they seriously got that much time on their hands that they have nothing better to do!
Report GHADDAFFI. May 24, 2012 10:40 PM BST
my conclusion is that the real bosses at betfair ( the exchange )  have lost  interest in the poker side of the operation for quite some time now .They have thrown a big chunk of money at it without any improvement. Because of the vast profits they generate however they can carry on with making a loss  on the poker side of things in the hope that one day the situation might change for the better.I assume this is for tax reasons as well.Yet I would not be surprised if they pull the plug one day and close the operation.
I can see that the number of players is declining month after month and yet with all the problems that have been brought to their attention they have done feck all to improve their product in the last 2 years.
Throwing hundreds of thousands on promotions won't change that fact
I would love to be proven wrong
