Its a very easy insta-fold for me, but I'm old school.

very likely u in front, but very often only 60;/40.
fold for me. ps are yer blinds correct? should it read 2500/5k? |
|
By:
Sorry - of course 2,500 - 5,000. What are you calling with here?
|
|
By:
Certainly not with A8.
A8 is a good enough hand to shove but not to call. For me I need TT JJ QQ KK AA or AK to call and maybe AQ. Would probably shove any pair and most aces and KQ and maybe KJ. |

I doubt he would be shoving with AA,KK,QQ,as he would really be wanting to get as much out of these hands as possible, and the shove does look like a steal.
But unless he has a2,a3,a4,a5,a6,a7, or a hand containing an 8 other than 88, then what are you in fantastic shape against ? I accept you only have 14bbs yourself, and that to win this type of event, or go really deep, you are going to have to gamble, but my calling range is similar to Thrappers, maybe a bit wider, but not much. There will be some on here would deffo call with A8, and it wouldnt be the worst play of all time if you are convinced the villian is shoving virtually any 2. I'm assuming the SB had a similar size stack to yourself ? |

Everyone is relatively short stacked - that's the point. I would have thought that normally at this stage with 140 left we would be deeper. Small blind had about 40k. Table was playing so tight that I was able to shove my remaining 20k and not get called. In the actual hand villain had KQ and I obviously lost. I am now thinking that I needed to keep my fold equity sized stack. If I had 250k I assume you would be calling?

By:
It is good to see you have learned something from it ttayseer. Yes, with 250K stack, its a snap call for 40 or 50K.
|

By:
correct, with u allshort stacked ,the game plays like a doubleor nothing, u must keep your fold equity, and only callwith real premimums.

I think you are probably about 50/50 vs his range, which means calling is likely to be an ICM disaster. While people can happily ship any 2 online, they probably struggle to do so live vs a BB that has them covered.
I think you have to call something like AT up, and probably 88 up. As Klup says if you have a ton of chips A8 is probably a call. |

Funny thing is I play thousands of SitnGos and am very ICM aware. Working out when ICM is relevant in a tournament is more difficult for me - I suppose this is the perfect situation with the stacks so short.
