The official explanation was that money spent on MTT Leaderboards was of insufficent value to the company i.e. it did not generate sufficent extra turnover to be financially viable.

There is a limited amount of money avaialble to spend on promos, and they get more value spending it elsewhere e.g Skill and Go, Natural Born Grinders, which are effectively rake races.

The non turbo MTT's can't be making much money for the company, who would rather have lots of people playing either cash or turbo STT's.

I'd say Betfair is now primarily catering for the lower stakes STT and cash market, which is why the MTT lobby is so poor compared to some other sites. At the same time you have networks like 888 where theres loads of good MTT's but almost zero STT traffic at any stakes and at any time of the day.

I play primarily Turbo STT's with buyins of around $20 and have to say there's heavy traffic almost around the clock, and the standard of play is very poor. This contrasts favourably with Old Betfair where there were times mid morning for instance where you could wait half an hour for a $25 Stt to fill, sometimes longer, and when it did it would just be the same decent players at the table.

At the end of the day they are a business and exist to make profits for the shareholders. Low stakes high turnover games make them the most money, so those are the games they are going to promote the heaviest.
