unless it's ak or kq suited it seems to me that suited connectors are the most over rated hand in poker. I can coun't on one hand the amount of times I called or raised with them and had any success. How do you play them in a tournament setting or in a cash game?

In Stts and Mtts when deep stacked I play them from late position when I can see a flop cheaply. Unless I hit the flop very hard I then fold.
You cant really lose much by playing them, but you stand to win a lot. God only knows why anyone would want to raise pre flop with them. I'd also much rather play 56 suited or 78 suited than kq suited. |

ha kqs is like the best hand ever! You pick up so many barrel cards and if you get flatted pre you basically can only have them dominated as they will most likely reraise ak or aq! Chipfire, raising suited conectors is far superior the truth is most of their value is the fact that you will pick up draws and can barrel people off or shove over bets with equity.

I'd probably play them differently if I was playing cash games, or high stakes stts/mtts Spackers, but at the level harter plays, you cant really get clever with hands against opponents who dont even know what they are representing, let alone what you are representing. If you start 3 or 4 betting pre with suited connectors like 5 6 in a 5$ STT you will be entering a world of pain.
At low stakes, I'd say the three hands people consistently lose the most chips with in stts/mtts are aq, kq, and kj. I see bad players calling big pre flop raises from solid regs all the time with kq and you just know if they hit a king or a queen on the flop they are losing all their chips. |

Harter and myself play a b@stardised version of Bingo, where we farm the mathematically challenged for small sums of money. No trickery or particular skill is required, just simple adherence to some very basic ground rules. Being a smart@rse in the low stakes games rarely, if ever, pays off. |

I limit myself to suited connectors between 4 and 8: 45, 56, 67, 78. I need to get in cheaply and for a small percentage of my stack.

i got ' kill everyone' for christmas, not read it yet as it looks a heavy read, but did scan it and i am pretty sure he said he plays his SCs exactly the same as his primes from any position.. :MTTs and maybe stts who knows? I dont. obviously.

Suited connectors are a useful part of a polarized range to 3 bet with (in cash games).
Against a raiser in late position pre flop who probably has a wide range and will fold a lot or 4 bet but not call, you can 3 bet with your value range and the best part of your folding range. Hands like 86 suited could be in that best part of your folding range. They don't want a call but if you are called you are unlikely to be dominated and can flop decent equity. If you are 4 bet it's an easy fold. IMO most of their value comes from folds in this situation either pre-flop or 2nd barrel rather than picking up draws which doesn't happen often enough. The draws are just a possible safety net. |

When deep stacked in MTT's I like to get in against tight players who have raised with suited connexters or even suited one gappers because I know they have strong hole cards and when I do hit there is every chance I will get paid off by the big over pair. Easy to fold if missing flop or even hitting it lightly.
In STT's, certainly at the level I play at ($20 - $50) getting creative is usually not a good idea but I do mostly play turbo ones so may be different in the longer version. For cash I haven't a clue as I am bobbins at cash but if Spackers says they are good then thats good enough for me as he is an excellent player and his rare posts on here should always be absorbed! |
