Assuming its a standard 10$ sit and go, and you finished 2nd it would be  :

10 x ( 3+ 2 - ( 2 /10 ) ) so essentially 10 points, but no idea what the ^3 is. gnash would know.

If its a Betfair Leaderboard you get bonus points for living somewhere daft as well I think e.g. Latvia, Hungary, etc, so it could be that.

i should relocate back to Zimbabwe and get a 17x points multiplier
Report chipfire227 December 30, 2011 11:31 AM GMT
Actually the more I look at that formula the less sense it makes, unless its the coinflip see who can lose the most formula.

ive no idea to b honest.#
when i quoted scores in the past i used the chart i was sent.

ive not bothered to check if its correct, but it seems in the area when ive done lb s in the past.

when they give out these formulas  they should b given out with an example or 2 like u have attempted chip.

i think  winning  A 10man turbo at 10 dollars[10+1] scored 14.something pts.

I get a fiver or a tenner a week out of them leaderboards, but I have no idea  how they function.

Last week I was over 600 in front on the week and finished 104th.

This week, playing about the same number of games I'm 140 in front but am in the same place with the same points.

^3 Think that may mean cube rooted but not 100% sure.
Report wingdings2 December 30, 2011 4:30 PM GMT
Yes, it is cube root.
Report chipfire227 December 30, 2011 4:42 PM GMT
It sounds like the type of easy to understand formula Betfair may have come up with. Shocked
Report GHADDAFFI. December 30, 2011 4:43 PM GMT
well... thanks.. I don't seem much wiser though.

I downloaded their calculator and i says I should click "enable editing" to enter my results
I wish I knew where to click...

According to gnasher you get points for every stt you play on a sliding scale, so even when you lose you are scoring points, which essentially makes it a rake race.

To make the top 5 places in a normal week you would need to spend somewhere in the region of $25,000 entering stts between 1 dollar and 20 dollars. Think one of the Romanians who finished third said he was playing over 200 x $20 D2NS per day, which sounds about right.

One of the Finnish lads who finishes up there plays $5 five man stts. Either he is account sharing or he never sleeps.
Report Magical Feast December 30, 2011 11:46 PM GMT
As written u would score more for coming last in a $20 10 man stt than winning a $10 10 man game.
Report chipfire227 December 30, 2011 11:53 PM GMT
Yes, but they did run a leaderboard the other week where the person who lost the most won, which bizarrely, people entered.

Anyhow, how the devil are you, and more importantly hows the four legged fellas treating you ? This Racing Post dogs channel is a godsend/licence to print money, is it not ?

Up and down you know how it works, keep praying the cops beat the drops. Had it bang off last night.. done my nuts today. I only really look at one track mate ..in any depth.. entertainment stakes only elsewhere, so rptv just a interesting distraction tbf. For the next few months anyway.

Good news its on at all though.

I typed out some examples and the forum ate it..

$10 10 man
sqrt(10 * (3 + 2 - 0.001)) for 1st = 7.07
sqrt(10 * (3 + 2 - 0.027)) for 3rd = 7.05
sqrt(10 * (3 + 2 - 1) for 10th     = 6.32
Report Magical Feast December 31, 2011 12:26 AM GMT
^3 where written = cube the finishing position
Report GHADDAFFI. December 31, 2011 12:35 AM GMT
I assume its the same for 30 runners right ? thank you very much...
Report Magical Feast December 31, 2011 12:50 AM GMT
how many places they pay 30 runners.. ?
Report GHADDAFFI. December 31, 2011 2:19 AM GMT
it pays 6... but on reflection I still dont get it . I'm old school.. got a mathematical brain , but I'm lost here.. .Is * symbol for mutiply? what does the 0,001/0.027 represent?
Report chipfire227 December 31, 2011 12:40 PM GMT
I think from what gnash said previously the difference between winning and losing, in terms of points scored is minimal, which effectively means it is a rake race. This is confirmed by the figures produced by MF.

The * does indeed mean multiply and the figures at the end are the cube roots of finishing position divided by number of entrants.
Report GHADDAFFI. December 31, 2011 4:42 PM GMT
I see... they make it as complicated as possible to distract from the fact that there is hardly any difference between winning and losing. They then sit and watch an army of desperados chasing a leaderboard and fill their boots with the rake.To cap it off they realise they made a mistake midway through the competition and revise the leaderboard . It seems most promotions seem to go down that route. If I were a jobless uneducated man living on the outskirts of Kiev with absolutely no prospects and plenty of time on my hands I think this might be an option , But thankfully that is not the case !
Report NickFiickTheOriginal December 31, 2011 5:05 PM GMT
Hardly any difference between winning or losing. Just volume.
Favours playing the 30 player varieties rather than 10 player STTs. And also turbos.

If you are looking for a sit n go leaderboard that you can understand look on PStars Battle of the Planets.

Thats got a chance for the regular play a few hours over a few days part-time poker player/full-time employment/and yes i'll make some quality time for family too type of player.

As for leaderboards on here if you see me up there I'm either on a massive heater or taking some leave and not going on holiday.

I wouldn't worry about the leaderboards - just focus on ROI calculations and whether you are enjoying it or not. And try to get better - work on hand histories, etc.

Banter was quite good over the last couple of days on here. I'll put that down to the last couple of promotion freebie MTTs.

Yep Ghaddaffi, that's about the extent of it, as discussed on the various leaderboard threads on here recently, the latest of which was this :

http://community.betfair.com/poker/go/thread/view/94146/28797239/skill-and-go-leaderboard

The upside for UK players is there's loads of traffic at all hours, and loads of very one dimensional opponents.
