Was playing in a 5k gtd tourney on Carbon poker tonight and went deep, blinds were 1k/2k. I was BB and when the hand finished, i was moved to another table where i found myself on the bb again. As if that was bad enough, when that hand finished, i got moved again straight into the bb. At this point i was absolutely livid, then the unthinkable happened, that hand finished and got moved AGAIN into UTG. I sent them an e-mail and got such a lame explanation just stating that being moved around is standard in tournament poker. Like I didnt know that. But to be moved into BB position, can someone clarify the rules please.

After the poor explanation that didnt give a reason as to why i was bb 4 times in a row, I e-mailed them back asking them to explain properly why this happened. When i show you the reply i got back, I think its fair to say they havent got a ****ing clue what they are on about:

Dear John,

Thank you for contacting us.

In Texas Hold’em or Omaha poker tournaments when the small or big blind is eliminated from a tourney, the blinds must be slightly re-positioned to account for the eliminated player. The rules pertaining to this event are referred to as the Dead Button rule. Carbon Poker uses this format to be fair and to ensure that all players post their appropriate blinds without giving any advantage to one player over another. Due to this randomness, all players will have an equal opportunity to benefit from this scenario. When two players remain or in a Heads-up tournament, the button will post the small blind, and act first on the opening round.

We are always here to help you. Please feel free to reply to this email if you have any additional questions in relation to this or any other matter. Your reference ID for this email is LTK572013721233X; please quote this number in any further communication on this subject.

Kind regards,

Michele Bequette --

Who the **** mentioned anything about a player being eliminated on the blinds and the dead button rule. Am i ****ing banging my head up against a brick wall here? Angry

If you were on the bubble, and you had 1BB left, and you were moved 4 consecutive hands to UTG, would you be complaining?
Report jc30 November 23, 2011 10:46 PM GMT
Wtf has that got to do with anything. When you get moved after playing the blinds, you should get moved to a seat as far away as the blinds as possible, thats standard. Sometimes, but rarely that doesnt happen and you can indeed be moved into a seat close to or even the bb itself but for it to happen 4 times in a row is completely wrong. Dont you think I dont have a right to complain? Going deep into a tourney and being forced to put chips into the pot on four consecutive occasions which damages my stack and hence damages my chances of cashing in and you dont think i should complain. Like to see it happen to u my friend, see if you adopt the same attitude then!

Take it you weren't dealt monsters and doubled up 4 times?

As someone said, if you were moved to button or cut off then we wouldn't be reading this.

It HAS happened to me, it IS annoying but it's one of those things sadly

If ppl didnt have issues or questions regarding things that happen in poker you wouldnt have a bloody forum. What a stupid reply! And yes I would still be asking the same question as i have above and with STILL no concrete answer. Should i have been moved to BB position 4 times in 4 hands and if not, is there a rule that states this? Its as simple as that so if you aint got an answer to my question, then dont bother posting!

OK to answer your questions:

The BB is an open position on the table, as is SB, Button etc...  So it is a valid possibility you could get moved there 2, 4 or 10 tens on the trot. (I note you say 'virtually on the bounce' so these were not even consecutive hands).

It is not against the rules. As you can be moved anywhere on the table.

It is just unlucky. If you got were about to get swallowed by the blinds and got saved by being moved 4 times you wouldn't be complaining. If you were chip leader and get aces in two running hands that hold you wouldn't be moaning. If you hit the river on 4 consecutive AIPFs when you are 30% or less you wouldn't be moaning.

Being moved like this happens to all of us if you play enough poker. Some you benefit from some you don't. We only seem to remember and bitch about the times it goes against us though.

Thank you for your answer. Obviously im not going to be happy about it but even if it done me a favour, i would still be asking the same question. When i said virtually, it was 4 times in four hands except the fourth time i was UTG, so 1 position off bb. Ive been playing online poker for over 6 1/2 years, im as regular to online poker as the majority and i wouldnt have opened this thread if something similar had happened in all my time playing. What happened to me the other night was a first for me so i just wanted clarification on the matter. Thanks again and ill sleep better tonight Grin

jc i think ur right in complaining i dont play many mtts, i have been thrown from table to table a few times when ive played but what ur saying going to bb 4 times in a short space of time sounds like a glitch too me
or all wrong if there is no rule for this.

There is a simple rule at my local casino.  If you are moved to a new table then you are forced to sit out the first hand if you would be playing either the BB or the button.  If you are seated in any of the other positions then you are dealt in immediately.

If a table is not being broken up and it is only one player being moved then it is the player who has most recently played the BB who is moved.

This seems very fair to me and I don't understand why it is not implemented on all online sites.

It wouldn't happen in a live game, but then in a live game players switching tables isnt done in a matter of seconds, it is done in  however long a time it takes to ensure the move is as fair as possible. Likewise table balancing.

Being moved in the late stages of an MTT is frustrating but paying the big blind two or three hands in a row is infuriating. It also narks me no end when you are down to the last 2 tables, and all the big stacks are on one and all the small are on another. However these are just the crosses we have to bear. If every time a table broke online the game was held up for 5 minutes while things were sorted, people would probably complain about that too.

I totally sympathise with the OP, but unfortunately it happens. Sad

Unlucky mate. If action in front not to bad just push. No one will believe that you are pushing with junk on a first hand table move deep.Shocked

are you sure about this harry ? never known it before , most places implement the rule of moving the next BB from the table and seating him in the worse position (ie nearest to the BB) they should also be allowed to play the BB but not a small blind ,some places allow button to play but some dont
Report TheSaxman November 27, 2011 1:59 PM GMT
I know on Stars, there is no dead button...sometimes you miss the BB and go straight into the SB..

Where I play live and someone needs to be moved they always move the appropriate player to go into the empty seat, so playing the exact same position on the new table..good rule I think...but possibly not feasible to do online
