Target for my top prize is 11,120. It may as well be 4 million !Laugh
Report Bruce Willis November 16, 2011 3:21 PM GMT
Whats your target for your lowest prize? Mines at 1500 for an ipod shuffle or something, top prize 3D Tv
Report chipfire227 November 16, 2011 3:34 PM GMT
Think mines about the same for a mini fridge. My sports betting is minimal these days, and I certainly dont want any encouragement to try and increase it.

1500 points is 150£ you have to win in betfair commission right? something like this not too sure,

2 years ago the poker players got the 12 plays of Christmas promotion. Last year we got allowed into Prize Mountain. What Christmas promotions have Betfair got in store for us this year ?

Let's hope it amounts to more than the " Team Betfair Wants You " thing currently being advertised. The prizes are not particularly appealing, to win them you have to play yet another million runner freeroll riddled with disconnections where winners are determined not by any skill factor but the luck of the draw, and they are holding it on Friday 30th December, when I imagine a great many people, myself included, will have other plans involving friends and family.
Report The Klup November 16, 2011 5:03 PM GMT
They are bound to have promos for December, i expect end of the week they will know.
Report Bruce Willis November 16, 2011 5:50 PM GMT
When I first saw that promo chip fire I thought they had made the final on new years eve haha!
Report appollo November 16, 2011 6:38 PM GMT
My first target is 7770 and final target is 20690, both totally unrealistic. Last year they cut my target half way through the promotion, but it was still way out of reach.
Report The Klup November 16, 2011 6:52 PM GMT
From the targets I have it appears to be 50% rakeback on sports betting commission fees.

If you can do one successful big trade, you could be set :)
Report chipfire227 November 16, 2011 9:30 PM GMT
Having a  final on Friday 30th December is nearly as bad. I'm possibly going up to Scotland for New Years Eve and if I do will be travelling up there that day. A lot of people are on the go during the Festive period visiting family and what not so it seems a crazy time to have it.

The prize mountain target for me is lunacy, and I've no idea where the have got the figures from. It's certainly zero incentive for me to bet more than I do already, especially with Christmas coming up. Its essentially asking a bloke that bets in fivers and tenners to stick 6 grand on something to win a camera.

Even if they included the poker it would be very difficult. I would probably be prepared to pay another 500 dollars rake over and above my current usage if I thought there was a guaranteed x-box for the kids in it,but as it stands the prize mountain wont get me betting any more than I do now, the " Team betfair wants you promo" wont get me playing any more poker than I do now, and  the non functioning STT leaderboards wont either. 1600 points my first target, do you know how much wagering that would require chipfire?
Report chipfire227 November 16, 2011 11:12 PM GMT
I had £18 on the last winner at Hexham at evens (which is a decent bet for me these days )and it generated 7 points.

So thats about 4 grands wagering to win an ipod. Personally I think thats poor value, given you can get a second hand one in Cash Exchange for about 50 bar. Shocked
Report The Klup November 16, 2011 11:21 PM GMT
4K of winning bets!!
Report Bruce Willis November 16, 2011 11:28 PM GMT
Yeh winning bets!! god these targets are AWFUL, who made these up 30 days to bet 4k in winning bets, they need to allow poker points again or bring these targets down to like 400 points! sick joke betfair
Report chipfire227 November 16, 2011 11:52 PM GMT
I would have to have 16 grand in winning bets to get an x-box, and that's sterling not dollars !!!

If I had been betting in those sort of amounts at any point in my life, then fair enough, but the fact is I haven't, and I'm never likely to.I can only assume the target has been set based on my poker usage and sports betting combined, and not my sports betting alone, which is minimal these days.  Laugh

Mine is £10,000 to win a £400 TV!

Need to hit a 16 fold!
Report Bruce Willis November 17, 2011 12:24 AM GMT
how are you guys working it out again? the points target to Pounds wagered ?
Report NickFiickTheOriginal November 17, 2011 12:27 AM GMT
Suggests i need to e-mail.
Looks straight forward to me only target 1 - 100 points to win £5 - 1000 to win £50 - 3000 to win £150 and 4000 to win £200.
Not clear promotion - just says place a bet.

Sounds a real **** rake race for me. Never bet on here before. Don't think anything here encourages me to.

And with all the helpful advice on this forum I do not think I'll make any bets at all.

Just going stick with Secret Santa at work for this Christmas.

Sorry folks ... apparently you earn points on implied commission as well when you have a losing bet!

T's & C's for calculation: https://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Betfair.Charges/

Nick - ive sent you a couple emails, have u seen them? they were to the email you used to contact me back in December / January.
Report The Klup November 17, 2011 8:37 AM GMT
You earn Betfair Points every time you bet on a market. You will earn 1 point for every 10 pence of commission paid (if you have net winnings) or implied commission (if you have a net loss). Implied commission is calculated in exactly the same way as commission but refers to losses rather than winnings. Betfair Points are awarded equally whether you win or lose.

Example:
You have net winnings in a market of £400.
The Market Base Rate is 5%.
Your current Discount Rate is 40%.
Therefore the commission you pay is £12 (£400 x 5% x (1-40%)).
You earn 120 Betfair Points.

Example (using implied commission):
You have net losses in a market of £100.
The Market Base Rate is 5%.
Your current Discount Rate is 30%.
Therefore the implied commission is £3.50(£100 x 5% x (1- 30%)).
You earn 35 Betfair Points.

So - finding a good trade like opportunity could be the way to go. Like backing in the overs/under section on say an under 2.5 and then backing in the total goals to be scored as 3 goals or more. Obviously you need to have odds to zero out any potential loss and cover commission costs to make it work, so finding a market like that wont be easy. Then you have to get on decent bets as well.
Report chipfire227 November 17, 2011 9:51 AM GMT
The commission on an 8 grand trade works out at about the cost of a new x-box for me. Rather than stump up 8 grand and have the hassle of making the trade and waiting to get paid out, then waiting 2 months for the x-box to arrive and not knowing who the warranty is with, you could just walk into currys and buy one. Glad im not going mad,I got a message about this on 15th when clicking on a link on the poker site and again when logging onto the sportsbook but neither worked as this was a good promotion last time.I mailed help desk asking if they were actually running this the reply i got signed by a Keeley Bajada stated they were not running any prize mountain promo at the moment.Appreciate this is not poker related but if this is answer you get to a sportsbook promo what chance have you got with a poker problem.

I think they use the poker software's random number generator to make these targets ExcitedLaugh

Here we are my results;

193 points reached with 2 days left
Target 1 = 1600

So with my usual betting patterns, im 1400 points away. just shows the targets ARE WRONG and way out- fail promotion. Need poker points to count next time, then it would be more attainable.

I need 38790 points for a fiver. What a stupid promotion.''

Report chipfire227 December 9, 2011 10:38 PM GMT
Even by normal standards it was a truly, truly, p1sspoor promotion, and I dont care what they say, POKER USAGE WAS SURELY INCLUDED WHEN THEY SET THE TARGETS.

I would have had to wager 5 grand to hit my bottom target, which was worth about £25. To hit my top target I would have had to wager one and a half times my entire annual salary BEFORE TAX, in a month.Laugh
Report gnashersblackpool December 9, 2011 11:34 PM GMT
u were lucky.

my targets are 47530 for a ipodshuffle, 54160 for a camera, 65190 for a ipadand 73720 for a telly.

so for a telly i would of had to have  posistions of almost 350000 quid.

as u can guess, i aint got 350k or am never likely to.

if poker had been included i would ohad a outside chance.

its almost  as good as the xmas refer a friend promo for 500 quid, to get 500 quid your friend has to earn 12000pts betting in 12 days.

also just been offered a xmas bonus by betfair. earn  5600 playerpts in 30 days for a whopping 71bucks. thats only 1600stts under the scheme[prevoiusly would of been 1200games.]
Report chipfire227 December 10, 2011 11:21 AM GMT
So essentially they looked at your average monthly spend, i.e. the amount you can afford to lose, and multiplied it by about 25, then claimed the targets were not taking your poker usage into account, and weren't incentivising people to gamble irresponsibly.
