Theres 1380 in the pot and it costs you 800 to call, so for me it's deffo not a standard call, given you are getting just under 7/4, and you are holding junk.
The small stacks range here is probably massive, but it really depends, because some nits will sit and sit and sit until they pick up a big hand, especially at the lower end stakes. So my decision would be partly based on his play thus far. You have however missed out the 3 most important factors that would influence my decision- how long till the jump till 200/400, the size of the other 2 players stacks, and whether this is the bubble. If its the bubble, there's a while to go to the next blind jump i.e. over a minute and a half, I'm comfortable chip leader , and the other players are reasonably competent, then its a standard fold, because I want to keep the short stack in as long as possible to take chips off the other 2 players, who cant really call my shove with anything other than a monster because its ev-. |

So i probably deserved the barrage of abuse i got when the river J came. Was expecting/hoping to see a raggy A, and thought i'd be 60-40 ish dog..
Was bubble, the other 2 had around 3000 each. He showed AKoff .. tried to defend my call which i thought was pretty much standard at the time. See what youre saying, moronic was a bit harsh and maybe deffo not standard. Thanks for the reply chip. |

No probs, getting 7/4 against someone shoving a wide range its never really going to be bad to call with your stack. It also sends out a message to anyone thinking of stealing in future hands.
If the other two players have 3000 though, like I said, I probably fold and keep the short stack in, then just basically shove into every unopened pot once blinds hit 200/400 because nobody can really call your shoves as the others sit there trying not to bubble. Ideally once the bubble bursts you want to have the game wrapped up. I take it you went on and finished 1st ? |

Its a learning curve, and whatever level you are at, and no matter how experienced you are, its always wise to set aside some time each week to go through hand histories, and examine your play in depth to check for leaks.
In a standard stt where prize money is 50%/30%/20% I would actually prefer to play 4 handed with 7000 vs 3000, 3000, and 2000 stacks than 3 handed with 8,000 vs 3000 and 3,000 if blinds are 100/200 plus antes and about to jump to 200/400. 4 handed you can really bully the table into submission, once it gets 3 handed the other two stacks then have to play for 1st place and will be looking to take you on with just about anything half decent, as you probably discovered. You get precious little time to do the maths anyway at the end in stts, so getting involved in dialouge with other players via the chat box is just dumb. Typing time is your thinking time. Let them type as much as they want in the chat box, restrict your comments to wp, gg, vul,etc, and concentrate on the game, not what others are saying. |
