There is a big stink at the mo about bots playing at ipoker (check out the twoplustwo forum for more info). I would not be surprised if they were rife across all internet poker. The best way to tackle it I think would be for a little box to pop up every now and again during tourneys asking you to type in some random word in squiggly text they give you.
To be honest I cannot see the sites being over-eager to bring in some initiative like that which reduces the number of players (and hence rake). However if there was a site which showed it was really serious about cheating I would certainly play there in preference to anywhere else. |

why would anyone be bothered about playing bots ?
|
|
By:
I have volunteered to have my chat banned as I spend to much time talking so can't concentrate on my games. When I don't type does that mean i'm a bot?
|
|
By:
No matter what, A bot would not be able to type.....Right
Its a simple enough matter to fire characters into the keyboard buffer from just about any programming language you care to mention. There's no reason at all why bots couldn't type. |

here is the post from a well known poker forum about these bots:
I am writing this post on behalf of a large group of MSNL/HSNL Ongame regs. As some of you may be aware, there has recently been much discussion of bots playing midstakes no limit on several networks. These bots are present on the Ongame network: The evidence is overwhelming. We are not going to publicly present all our evidence as this could help the bot operators, but we have a large body of statistical evidence: the bot accounts all play a unique, unorthodox style. Although they vary their preflop games, they all play extraordinarily similar in ways which cannot be by chance. In a large number of frequent scenarios, the bots have extremely similar frequencies which are drastically different from all winning regs, and in many cases all players period. In some situations they take certain actions virtually 0% of the time where virtually every other player, winning or not, has a frequency significantly different from zero. furthermore, this style of play is not being taught or discussed anywhere on the internet. In a tight-knit community of regular players, no one knows the owners of ANY of these winning accounts, that all play an unusual style and win lots of money. So what? Who cares? Why are bots bad? These accounts are CHEATING: they are breaking the terms of service we all agree to when we sign up for a poker site. the bots are bad for you whether you are a professional, a casual player or anyone in between. These cheating accounts are winning LOTS of money. They are either beating you, or taking money from players you could beat. Bots can play long hours without tilting or making mistakes, And they are improving constantly. Even if you can beat them today, you may not be able to tomorrow. If poker players can identify bots, why can't Ongame/Betfair |

How do we get one?

My eyes have seen enough hands at the tables to be able to recognise certain patterns Obviously I can NOT prove BOTS are out there, But I do believe I / Us humans are also up againsts BOTS As an example : Do you think a HUMAN player is going to play a tournament and after say 2 hours 30 minutes go all in with J4 offsuit and beat someones QQ AFTER the flop (That is NOT a hand thats got me typing this by the way) lol And yes it would be hard to get all nationalitys to communicate - - - - - - - - In reply to wykhamist2 I have NOT seen the comments / Threads about this on other forums etc In my opinion the SITES will NEVER put a box for a some random word / Squiggly text. As we recently seen at BF2 they took away chat More BOTS also means the sites can statistically say they have a larger player base than they actually have - - - - - - - - In reply to PhoenixClub Its not that I'm bothered about playing bots, They have many advantages aswell as some CLEAR disadvantages - - - - - - - - In reply to whysolohsbc Having your chat banned doesn't make you a bot, Look in the mirror and you should be looking back at yourself. lol - - - - - - - - Heeeere's Johnny and all the others It is also possible that a HUMAN BOT could type, If he / She is employed to multi table as part of a scam YES A bot DOESN'T necassarilly have to win pots, But they can force others into moves and take others out with them This stuff is all programmed, And the software will only do as its told - - - - - - - - - - dave1357 I think very few at ongame / Betfair could easily identify them, The question is how long until someone else discovers them |

Coming from an IT background, I have to say it is frighteningly easy to write this kind of program. I had to do something similar for a client recently (not Betfair or poker related I hasten to add). It was basically interfacing with an online app, stripping data from it, making decisions based on that data and then sending responses back to the app. It took 48 hours to get a demonstrable version running and about a week to iron out all the wrinkles. Hardly a prohibitive timescale for someone looking to set this kind of thing up.
Is it really so hard to believe that someone with these kind of IT skills isn't also adept enough at poker to develop a half decent bot, or at the very least could collaborate with someone that has the poker skills ? Knowing how easy it is to do the "hard" part of developing a bot (i.e. the IT work) I honestly can't see how the poker networks aren't flooded with them. |

BOTFAIR

There are one or two names that I know are bots in here, one of which was playing 7 tables the other night (that I was aware of). I decided to bring up the 7 tables and this account was making it's decisions in the same amount of time at each table, sometimes 3 tables acting in the space of a few seconds :/
I know that personally I start to lose concentration, make mistakes and also tick out now and then when I play more than 2/3 tables. I try to avoid them yet at the same time, if you watch enough then they are predictable and not impossible to beat. End of the day, still cheating and unfair on decent players. Also if I am aware enough to notice (along with plenty others whom have been on the table) then why can't Betfair? |

statement from ongame -
Dear members of the community, With this communication, Ongame wants to clarify the position in questions regarding bots and share insights in what Ongame is doing to handle the topic. We will not discuss individual cases in public but encourage all players to always report suspicions on fraud. Ongame’s Internal units and Risk & Fraud staff is continuously monitoring and acting on fraudulent behavior in the network. This work is continuous and Ongame is helped by partners, players and yourselves. The recent discussions have of course not passed unnoticed and we encourage all stakeholders to communicate their concerns and ideas on how to improve the environment. In recent communication, Ongame has come in contact with a group of forumites that have shared comprehensive analysis and studies highlighting characteristics, tendencies and patterns of suspected bots. That materiel is indeed valuable and is being used in our risk & fraud prevention. Ongame can share that extensive data analysis has been performed on game data and we have found variations in specific parameters which we believe can be used to uniquely discover the usage of this specific type bot. We are now conducting more studies to take action against matching fraudulent accounts. However, we are not satisfied with the closure of these specific matching accounts. We see our initial actions as short term fixes and not something that will tackle the problem at its root and prevent bot creators from opening new accounts and repeat violations. In order to find an effective countermeasure, we have launched a task force that is investigating what can further be done from a technical perspective. In this work, various internal resources are collaborating with external experts. We are looking into a number of ideas that will make bot play very hard on Ongame network and we are confident that we will find ways to strengthen our ability further. Ongame also actively takes part in and strives to expand industry collaboration with partners and competitors to jointly work against the industry-wide problem that fraud, bots and money laundering poses. Finally, we want to take the opportunity to thank the poker community and above all the group of dedicated and competent 2+2 forumits for their cooperation. “Humans only”, has been, is, and will remain our policy. |

What does the part where it says ongame INTERNAL units and risk + fraud staff acting on fraudulant behaviour in the network mean ""INTERNAL"" Meaning there own staff IF its meaning INTERNAL that they have there own inside staff, Its hardly as If there going to get into trouble If they hand themselves the details of the bots IF, Like I believe there are bots These bots are owned by the site itself I think we all know bots are possible, For those that dont. Maybe they should take a look at BRAVE NEW WORLD with stephen hawking : Machines To see the DRIVERLESS cars, Then tell me they couldn't have programmed bots in the software |

Yes there are, with out a shadow of a doubt bots on ongame, and every poker network I have ever played on with decent traffic.
'Obviously I can NOT prove BOTS are out there, But I do believe I / Us humans are also up againsts BOTS As an example : Do you think a HUMAN player is going to play a tournament and after say 2 hours 30 minutes go all in with J4 offsuit and beat someones QQ AFTER the flop (That is NOT a hand thats got me typing this by the way) lol' The above is just daft though, bots are there to make money, that is there sole purpose. Too much variance in MTTs means you would be exceptionally unlikely to see a bot in them. Even if you were to chance upon one, too many meta factors in a MTT make them next to useless . |

They have now designed bots programmed to say such things as;
Your mamma is a fkn **** Hope you die a slow lingering death How the **** can you call with bottom pair Im going to hunt you down you fkn fish So beware of the bots. |

Anyone used Shankys Holdem Bot? If so can you recommend?
|
|
By:
Avoid Shankys Bot. Absolute waste of time and money using this. Run by a guy called Egor and he tells you that the profile that comes with it will clear you the bonuses offered at the supported sites. In fact it will lose you money as a child could work out its plays and beat it! They have other free profiles, but these are a waste of time too. I'm now convinced that its a massive scam because on the forum that you get access to, there is people selling profiles with graphs (fake no doubt) showing how theirs is winning lots of cash. Most cost more then the bot and I'm sure the sellers are all part of Shankys.
Think about it (something I didn't do!) why would anyone sell a winning bot? Avoid!!!! |
