Neither. There's nothing skillfull about going all in 4 straight times and lucking out. There's several hands I played during the game I wouldn't have usually played otherwise.

Actually I have never been upset with Ongame because of bad beats (they happen). What I get upset at is the number of times there are head to head all ins in an STT where a player wins on the river where they were more than a 90% underdog. In most games you usually see a blank but it seems at Ongame there is rarely a blank on the river. I know it's not unique to Ongame (PokerStars is referred to as RiverStars by many) but it just seems there is no reason there should be so many river wins here.

As for the full of shyte comment I was referring to a hand where I was shown as 99% but in reality was a 500/1 favourite and lost to the only possible 2 card combination which gave both of us a straight flush. The reality of that happening is the same as Lichtenstein beating the Netherlands in an important game leading up to the World Cup. If this was a very rare occurrence you would shun it off but hands like that seem to come up way too often.

I'm also very concerned (and I'm surprised others aren't also) with a major executive from the company that owns the poker network admitting on camera that "we try to attract fish."

How exactly do you attract anyone in a way that guarantees 100% randomness? I'm just looking for an explanation. To me it's like having a politician on camera admitting to wrongdoing but instead of coming clean he deflects the comment as "spoken out of context."

I stopped reading after you called with 10/3 suited from the small blind in the first hand for 5% of your stack. Everything after that will just be irrelevant.

OK Chipfire humour me here.

I was SB and a guy who I have played against before and I know raises with virtually anything pre-flop when close to the button raised it 3x to 100 and with 3-10 suited I decided to call a 75 chip raise with 1,450 chips left for yes 5% of my stack.

What was so insanely bad about that call that you stopped reading?
Report harter September 28, 2011 3:50 AM BST
BTW you'll notice it was the 9th hand not the first. I lost 50 chips a bit earlier but folded almost everything up to that point.
Report chipfire227 September 28, 2011 7:41 PM BST
Whilst I appreciate the fact I spent more on a standard size packet of crisps today than you did buying in to this game, you cannot seriously expect me to list all of the reasons your call with 10 3 suited from out of position is wrong.

The amazing thing is that on another thread you are berating Ongame for offering greater financial incentives to fish to encourage them to keep playing.Shocked
Report chipfire227 September 28, 2011 7:58 PM BST
Oh and given you chose to see a flop, what this guy does or doesnt do pre flop is largely irreleavnt. If his raising range was small then at least you know where you are, if its wide you haven't a clue, you are first to act, and 95% of the time you will have to bluff to win the pot against a player you have suggested plays a lot of hands.

The only note it would make sense for you to be quoting in this instance would be one that states the villian folds 100% of his hands post flop if someone bets.
Report Apocolypse September 28, 2011 11:09 PM BST
Totally agree with chipfire! (as i usually do!) I love the way that harter say's the guy is super loose
to justify his own bad play lol!! 10 3 suited oop..........fml :)
Report harter September 29, 2011 3:05 AM BST

Me too - hickory sticks to be exact.

Fwiw, when I registered for the game it was late and there was nothing else with any players so I decided to register. It wasn't to get rich but to kill some time and have a bit of fun before bed. But the buy in was irrelevant. I was just amazed it was possible to come back with 10 players left in a 10 seater with less than 1/2 small blind and win. Maybe the title of my thread should have been different.

That aside I'll address some other issues. I play smaller buy-ins and mostly turbos. I think my breakdown is something like 2/5 $3, 2/5 $5 and the occassional $1 to $20 buy in. I have played in NL cash games and MTTs and I never had an issue. I have won satellites to major buy ins and I confess the play there was completely different than in these smaller buy in sit n gos.

I know the software isn't **** (I'm not that stupid) but I find that for whatever reason the play at Ongame, particularly in these smaller sit n gos is questionable. It's hard to play properly or enjoyably when you have a moron that constanbly raises all in with anything. You have AQ suited - what the hell are you supposed to do given your tournament could be on the line but you also know if no one ever calls this chump will just steal all the blinds the whole game. That's where the comment "we try to attract fish" by the ongame director is troubling. If these are the type of players ongame is trying to attract then I think they're hurting the product.

I confess the small buy-ins may be one of the problems. A lot of the complainers I see on the forum are the same ones I see in games I play. Obviously a $100 buy in will result in different play. But while I could afford to play the $100 buy ins to me that's not fun. I much prefer the lower buy in where if I lose I just shun it off but losing 2 or 3 $100 games would be my bankroll for the week. And IMO play shouldn't be so much different at the various levels.

I guess the other truth is I just preferred the old BF software and I found the tournaments when it was only BF customers were far more enjoyable - both in the area of play and chat. It was nice to discuss sports plays or scores at the tables with others you knew had similar interests to your own. I find now with ongame few if any say a word or respond to chat.

I don't know if it's possible or even feasible but why not create games that are for BF cutomers only at the various levels for STTs and MTTs even if it uses Ongame software.

Report chipfire227 September 29, 2011 2:13 PM BST
I wasnt being derogatory over the buy in by the way, everyone has to start somewhere, and I know there are decent players at micro stakes playing at their level simply for enjoyment.

However you also have to appreciate that with a 60 pence buy in you will get a lot of uber loose play, and a lot of donk calls.

Daniel Negreanu actually stated that AQ is the hand beginners lose the most money with because they over-rate a hand that will often be dominated when their has been heavy action pre-flop.

I gave a bit of coaching to a kid about 18 months ago who was starting out. He now plays 50$ stts and is making it pay. First few things I got him to do was stop playing aq and kj where there had been a raise,to stop calling from the small blinds, and to play more suited connectors in position when he could see a cheap flop.
