My main pc has started to freeze. At first I thought it was just the mouse/pointer, but it is the whole thing and it can happen at any time, sometimes on start up, sometimes on my desk top publishing software and sometimes on Firefox and the only way out of it is to power off and on. It seems to have coincided with me getting a new a3 printer and the software that comes with it. It must be reasonably old now, maybe 3 or 4 years. Have I finally run out of ram or something? I have run a scan and I don't seem to have any viruses. Any advice please? TIA.

If you want to check that uve used up all of your hard drive space, just click on start bottom left, and then click on computer ( should be on right side) and it will tell you available space u have left. hth

Uninstall your printer and see if it improves.

If it helps then thats your problem.

Thanks for the above. Plenty of space on hard drive. Haven't tried uninstalling printer yet - it took ages to install. Sad

McCoy

One of two things

1) Dust build up - get a blow dryer that can blow cold, and run it through the system
2) Too many dodgy sites - rebuild?

I have same issue with my laptops and pc's. hairdryer helps but once it starts it happens more and more frequently

Use the proper air dusters over a hair dryer :p couple of quid in the electronics shops

and if its happening after you installed new software (common problem that is) un-install it and see if it is solely the new software causing the freezes

On a more serious note mate you could insatll microsoft security essentials, you will find it on their web site and its free, it will scan your comp regualally and will update the security needed. Ive been using this for ages and never have a problem with it HTH

Check ur fan.  Sometimes a symptom of overheating.  Although if it's doing it from a cold start maybe not.  Presume u can't CNTRL-ALT-DEL out of it?
