Well for starters, in live poker, his hand wouldve been 'dead' and mucked as you cannot tell the truth so to speak. Because this is online, again you cannot tell players your cards but on a site like betfair, it cant be stopped. Someone did it on pokerstars and bascially a moderator was called who immediately warned the player if it happened again they would be out of the tournament. Even if you reported it to Betfai by e-mail, it would take them days/weeks to reply and obviously by then its pointless.

I know live his hand would have been mucked..have reported to betfair lets see what they do

Had similar last year, when I asked, Betfair said they consider this to be ''coffee-housing'' and hand would stand.
I thought ''coffee-housing'' was trying to mislead other players, but Betfair stood by their ruling. |

i remember thattemple.
i have seen it numerous times in don on bubble when i used 2 playem. |

i dont condone this and in the past have spoken (via chat) to tell players that this is completely against the rules and very poor poker etiquette. I then indicate to the player that if he does it again i will report him and ensure he gets barred from playing.
Sometimes people make announcements like that in d2n as he is reasonably stacked, and all he wants is the blinds - and to avoid getting called and having his AA cracked. my gut feeling is this guy was just 'coffee housing' if thats the term that happens to be flavour of the day ... and not really colluding. |

I don't think he was colluding. I know this isn't acceptable live however and i don't see why it should be acceptable online. Ongame can go back through the chat records and see who said what and a blanket ban would seem sensible imo. Betfair have now got back to me saying there hasn't been any breach of the rules. As off course betfair poker is actually ongame there isn't much chance of any change but i feel it is wrong. Maybe when betfair poker actually existed there might have been a chance.
I had a go at the player at the time and i think he got the point anyway. |

Ironically, if he hadn't shown his cards very little may have been said as he could easily have been fibbing and just saying it to prevent others calling!
By the way unless the stacks were ridiculously lop sided the person with AQ would have been stupid to call if nothing was said! |

I got disqualified from an APAT game for doing it, only me and a team-mate left in the hand.

(after consulting fraud team)
This is not technically collusion. It is bad form and he should have received a warning. He is allowed to say anything he likes in chat as long as it is not offensive. It is up to the players at the table to decide if they believe what he is saying is truthful! |

In future all enquiries like this should go through helpdesk

I'm pretty sure the above is correct right up until the point where the player actually shows his hand, at which point he crosses a line in the sand and his coffee-housing becomes cheating.
Like I said it happened to me in an APAT league game where I was blind on blind versus a short stacked player from our team. Normally I would fold from the small blind, but in this instance I typed "I've got AA if you wanna call" then shoved. He replied " yeah, whatever" and eventually folded. To prove I wasn't taking the pish I then showed the AA, and he said something along the lines of cheers mate. At this point all hell broke loose and people started calling for a ruling in the chatbox, calling me a cheat etc, etc. To cut a long story short I got disqualified and lost the points I went on to win for the team. Which was fair enough, basically I was in a no win situation. If I fold AA pre flop blind on blind no doubt it sets off alarm bells on the software and gets flagged up for someone to look at, and if I shove then dont show the rest of the team kick my head in. ![]() |
