Although slightly late in the year, I think this could be a good venue.
I have been to Lloret about 6 times in the past couple of years for a three night break Monday come back Thursday. There's loads of cheap flights from all parts of the country with Ryanair. I live near Portsmouth, an hours drive I'm in Bournemouth. Two hours to Girona, about 40 mimutes transfer from Girona to Lloret. I usually stay at the Royal Beach which is under the same group, H-Top hotels as the casino but as you say, avoid the casino hotel like the plague. Not only has it got a bad rating but you get some right characters staying there. The Royal Star is good too, closer to the casino, both are walking distances, but I think the Royal Beach is slightly better. Better buffet style food. Normally go all inclusive, & if I get the flights at the right price I normally look to do the whole thing, hotel, flight taxi to and from Girona for less than £150 each - or we don't go. Ryanairs flights have gone up a bit lately but you should still be able to get a good deal. Do it all yourself rather than the travel agent, dead easy, will tell you cheapest site to use if anyone interested in going. The venue is literally a five minute walk from the centre of Lloret where all the night clubs, bars are. The only problem I see is the date is a weekend so there is likely to be lots of stag/hen parties going on. That and work is partly the reason I have never gone at a weekend. It should certainly be lively enough for The Klup et al. Lol. The beach is just a bit further down the road and I have been in November and the weather was great -but don't bank on it! Work will have finished for me, and depending on circumstances, my Dad and the dog (the one in the photo) are both very ill then I would love to go. Everytime I have been to Lloret I have had a fantastic time. |

I stayed at the Excelsior with a band of poker players for the APAT Southern European event in January, bit small but ok, weather was warmish,-back home was very cold-,the only drawback was the walk up the hill from the front, where we were based. The casino was very plush.... and the soft drinks were free on a self help basis, which made up for the bar prices which were far and above the most expensive I've encountered bar Norway!
Having said that plenty of decent bars around and about which are very wallet friendly..... You'll have a great time if you go cheers Ian |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll be giving it a miss me thinks. If they had been so keen to have a tourny in Spain, should have put it on in the Costa del Sol. I'm off to Dublin fwiw. If you go, enjoy.

I had a chat with Rob in Dublin about Costa Brava and the venue. I am not sure whether I managed to convince him that we are talking about two totally different venues/properties here. However, it is better I bring facts over here:
* The one you find in Tripadvisor when you search with "gran casino costa brava" has absolutely nothing to do with Gran Casino Costa Brava where we host next Betfair Poker Live event. * Gran Casino Costa Brava is a brand new casino which opened its' doors a year ago. It is designed and built to be a casino; not converted to be a casino. Check out their site at www.gccb.com * Casino's poker room has up to 30 tables available. Cash tables start from 1/2 EUR upwards * Next to the casino - just around the corner - you find Guitart Monterrey Hotel. I spent there 2 days a couple of weeks ago and had nothing to complain. Wifi works, rooms are clean and tidy, breakfast is standard and hotel staff is generally helpful. I hope this sheds more light on Costa Brava venue. Regards, Asko/ BetfairPoker |
