Hi,

I recently won $945 as part of a bad beat jackpot in Atlantic City. When i went to claim it i was told that i had to pay 33% witholding tax as I didn't have an American address. I told them that I thought this was wrong as UK WSOP players don't pay tax but they insisted. I asked 2 poker room managers and a casino cashier manager independetly and they all said the same thing. They said I would get sent a form in January.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

As one, I can assure you they didn't.

You shouldn't pay tax because there is a double taxation agreement between the UK and USA.  I guess that doesn't mean a casino manager in Atlantic City will have heard of it.

I guess you'll just have to fill in the form now.

Vegas FTW obv
