I'm thinking of going on holiday (with my gf) to **et and have looked into it a bit. I know some forumites have been there a lot - can u help?

I'm there for the food and a bit of sun but I need to understand more about the West Coast monsoon season - does it just constantly rain or is it sporadic? Looking at Sept/Oct/Nov will I be able to enjoy the sun and just go to a bar when it tips down? Or is raining too much to get to the beach?

thanks

I spent a month there for two consecutive summers but this was about ten years ago. Thoroughly recommend it though. Its one of the safest places I have been to. Tourism is all they have and you get treated very well. Used to be so cheap to eat out. Went on all the advertised excursions with the gf (now wife) and we both loved it. Worth spending the money on a nice hotel though.

We went during their rainy season. July time I think, the first time we went it rained for the first week pretty much half the day every day, but then didnt rain at all for 3 weeks. The second time it rained a couple of hours every other day with a few storms at night. Great place.

AFAIK gambling is illegal in Thailand and all gambling sites are banned. I may be going May/ June to Bangkok and Pattaya.

i just come back yesterday from 3 weeks in thailand, spent 1 week in pattaya and 2 weeks in koh phi phi and surrounding islands! Pattaya is kinda like soho but i would advise people to visit as its an amazing place at night, maybe stay for like 3-5 nights max! koh phi phi is a small island 1.5hours flight from bangkok and is kinda beautifull but much more of a younger generations place (20-30)! beaches to me were fantastic and night life was good, have to visit tiger and reggea bar to watch thai kick boxing! dunno if that helped but bought back some great times! cheers.

Went in Oct rained every day, moved over to Krabi which while distance wise was not far, the weather was 10 times better.

Preferred Karon / Kato area in **et to the busier parts.

None of the poker sites i played on were banned and i played them both from hotel connections last year(*s and laddies), i also placed sports bets with no issues bar Paddy Power site.

I wouldnt book too far in advance at a hotel. You can probably barter better rates when there, and if the wether is bad/you dont like it just move, and I know bankok airlines used to do direct samui/**et flights.

Ko samui good for restaraunts/stuff to do in the evening.
Ko Tao is great for diving. I really loved it there, as I can just spend a day snorkelling, though it has got more crowded recently.
Ko PhaNgan (sp?) great for chilling, though not so much so where they have the full moon party.
The main beach on Ko PhiPhi is very picturesque.
Ko Lanta is really quiet and peaceful at the southern end.
Railay Bay used to be fantastic, but there are way more hotels there than they used to be. All around krabi/phiphi there are limestone stacks coming out of the water.
**et, lots there, but I didn't enjoy it.
