I know we have a few tennis afficionados here, but surely Federer is a great price to beat Murray

Woefully bland commentators are tilting me.

Personality bypasses

Dibs, Murray is British therefore you have to cheer for him

By:
dibble
When: 31 Jan 10 09:55
nah - that's a team sport. this is individual sport and I've not no more association with this chump than I do with federer.

that is a statement of fact si yes but imo has no bearing on whether I choose to support any given indvidual in any given individual event.

here, I hope he loses.

What about the Olympics?

They are individuals as part of 'Team GB'

Or are you cheering for the German to beat Chris Hoy?
By:

When: 31 Jan 10 10:07
Dangero, it is very understandable given Murrays anti English commenst in the past that some British people would not support him, especially non Scots.
By:

several of my friends think he is a complete cnt as result of this and want whomever he plays to beat him.

When: 31 Jan 10 10:09
lol - this is exactly the point.

in the olympics they're representing GB. In the ryder cup, they're representing GB.

do you only support footballs teams with british players?

you support what the team represents, not the individuals - it's a team sport.

in tennis, it's individuals representing themselves. I'll support who-ever i decide to support for whatever reason :)

I know but all British sportsmen are part of 'Team GB' in all sports so I support them regardless.

The Scots are handy anyway. They hate us, we laugh at them and occasionally cheer for them if they are good.

and we can lose that horrific americanism "Team GB" pretty sharpish too.

btw, on another topic... did you hear Alistair Campbell's suggestion to Tony Blair as to how he should start a speech to Parliament on the Iraq war? (as reported by Peter Hain - cabinet minister at the time I think)

"hello fellow americans" :D

don't think blair was best pleased lol

Listen, we're English, and if you're lucky you're Southern English. Now, I'm watching Coronation omniibus, with a stinking hagover, but I hope Murray wins.
