On the bubble, 3 seats awarded. I clawed my way through this thing in traditional sat style up until this point. I figured the guy to my right, who I know is a bit loose, would hang himself in some way. Then the following happened...

This was HORSE by the way. The stud h/l round had just started. Should have just folded on 3rd? And what's the best way to approach this situation in general, given the inherent ambiguity relating to stud h/l starting hands?
Standard hand really, but look at where you could have saved ***** *****money saved is money won.
Check 4th street, he will check behind. You may then even get 5th 6th and 7th streets without a bet as your board looks dangerous and he will want to get to showdown cheapish.
As played, fold river for definite.
.....................
And do not fold 3rd street because these are the sort of hands that can scoop decent pots when a poor player plays a big pair in hi/lo.
:)

Out of interest, what's your general approach to playing big pairs? In my experience they just don't play well, particularly at an active table where multiple players will find all sorts of reasons to stick around. I'll just bin [K-x]-K most of the time except for in very specific circumstances such as heads up against the bring-in, or when other door cards don't look too threatening.
I imagine decent players would find ways to play these as part of a balanced and profitable strategy, but I'm just not comfortable playing them. Any thoughts?

I bin most of them too mate unless otherwise as you've stated. Big pairs are a massive leak in hi/lo stud. Players feel they have the same power as they do in Stud Hi but they only ever play well heads up. If you folded every big Pair (not including Aces of course) then you would probably save money long term. :)
Hope you enjoy this game, it is very enjoyable and if played well you can have a decent edge over most opponents.
:)

Thanks for the input. Yes, I like this game a lot, no better feeling than scooping a big one!
Don't know why this thread posted twice though. If you scroll down you'll find the same thread with replies similar to your own from escapee.
Thanks again, gl!
