To the likes of JPJ/Ariston who play these

If a game is played with wildcards (ie 6 card omaha deuces wild) does 5 of a kind become a legitimate hand (and if so does it beat a straight flush)

Hand occurred the other night where the board flopped QQQ and im sitting with AQ in my hand. Obviously I have the nuts (liable to a chop) or a vulnerable hand and the action had been potted twice when it got to me. Thoughts appreciated but the ruling on whether 5 of a kind exists in this game more important thanks.

Five of a Kind - This poker hand is only possible when using wild cards; it is the highest possible poker hand. If more than one poker hand has five of a kind, the higher card wins (five aces beats five kings, which beat five queens, and so on).

surely a key bit of information you appear to have missed is how deep you all are..particularly 2nd pot and you.

im sitting with roughly 200bbs, pot and repot have 120bbs each and one still to act with 60bbs. pot was straddled but not raised pre so 10bbs. most players are not used to variant games (hence the initial question as to whether 5 of a kind plays)
Report rjp December 16, 2009 11:29 AM GMT
ok i might be wrong but my initial reaction was to get it in, however as pretty as it looks how good are you?
I would think neither of them is doing that without a 2 but would they do it without the kicker? Would they actually play the hand that way with 22? The 1st guy might but I dont think the raiser would.
You cant call so its ship or fold...I think for 120BB its probably a ship but tough spot imo esp as if you get called your probs almost dead or splitting (maybe the raiser could call with K2??)

was pretty sure 2nd pot had to have A2 with small chance of 22 so as my first time in the game I asked if 5 of a kind was a valid hand for clarification (seems kinda dumb afterwards lol). Upon agreement that 5 of a kind was not recognised in this game (hence the main reason for the thread) i flatted. turned out the 4 hands (incl the guy still to act) were AQ A2 K2 K2 lol

nice result...the only reason i said i dont like flatting is that your committed and actually looks stronger...tho the fact that 5 dont count makes it better i guess in a way
Nice one :)

Hi mate.

We play a game called 'twister' which is a hi/lo game split pot. The low is best 5 natural low (no wildies) A2346 is nut low, and bets high, pairs wild for the high, where five Aces is the nut high. But it is generally announced before hand that 5 of a kind beats all other hands. If not then normal omaha hands play so straight flushes beat quads and five of a kind doesn't play.

So if someone dealt this in our game then it would be asked 'Does 5 of a kind take precedent'.

Hope this long winded reply helps ::) :)

thanks JPJ, in future Ill try and ask the question pre deal rather than when ive picked up what may be the nuts lol.

pretty much all the games we play with wild cards then 5 of a kind beats quads or straight flush. if there are two five of a kinds then 5 aces down. almost all the variations are 5 card poker hands so although it is possible to have 6 of a kind etc they dont play- best 5 cards only,

some strange rules at different places though so its always best to check before you ship money into a pot or play a game- if you dont know the game muck your hand and watch it a few times while you learn it. we still play paduki highest card in your hand is wild (pair two wild cards etc) and if you throw in a mandaotory change on the final change you still get people sat with jja/882 sticking all their money in to think they got unlucky when they brick their mandatory change or players with a 6 or 5 stacking off.

bit of advice if you dont know a particular game is to watch and see who you think plays that game the best. buy them a pint and ask them why they did what they did or why they play that way and most players will educate you without knowing it. carefull you dont ask the table grinder though who may steer you the wrong way. most players are willing to help though especialy if you new to the game as they want you sat down all the time- its only when you start beating them will they wish they hadnt helped.

oh and asking during a hand could cost you a lot of money.

so if i have a queen in my hand here i have the nuts? followed by a raise means nobody will pay you (good bluff though unless you find the man who actually has the queen)

cheers ariston

i actually asked if 5 of a kind was a valid hand rather than is a Queen good lol

as for asking the best in the game, only a friendly crowd for small stakes, most struggle with omaha! so not sure id have got great info lol. was onlythe willd cards bit that threw me. the facts that in the first 3 hands with wild cards i have quads then 2 straight flushes I kinda liked the game lol
