Just read this on 2+2:

"its been common knowledge that the high stakes games on betfair have for years had a huge amount of professional soccer players in them"

Is this true? Not heard it before. Anyone know who?

there are a few...cant name names but thats why there are some relatively big games on betfair - like a punt on the racing and play a bit of poker too

Does sounds dubious. Are footballers clever enough to operate computers?

Well, one of the rumours on 2+2 is that Isildur is Phil Babb!! He's supposedly a fairly decent high stakes player...

wasnt there that alias which read backwards was the nickname for a footballer?

nori/iron? there were always 7/8 players lined up to play him.

am sure there are others, what about owen who likes a punt on the horses and will 100% have a betfair account. you telling me he hasnt dabled? and all those stories about playing poker on the team busses etc.

you need to ask the high stakes players really but there must be more than a couple

Just to end this thread ;)

Pro Footballers wouldn't like it to be common knowledge that they play big stakes poker online. They would be aware that profits and losses are easily available for all to see. So the last thing these players would wants is for a newspaper to reveal that they are winning/losing hundreds of thousands throughout the night and day, when they should be sleeping/training etc etc.... So they will do all they can to keep an annonymous profile whilst playing................. Thus, anyone saying that the games are full of them is just speculating.

I suppose it possible that punterz is Joey Barton, they could both start a fight in a phone box.

Yeah, I don't believe it either Chessey.

But how do you know he's Swedish? You can change your country of origin on FT - he could be from anywhere....

Who cares if pro footballers play online poker, most of em are just kids with too much money.. should they be given some sort of respect or something for getting 100 grand a week for kicking a ball about....

no one said anything about respect or standard of their play for that matter, it would just be pretty funny/entertaining to find yourself randomly heads up against someone like darren moore

If it is true, think it only fair, they let one or two of the poker players, on this site, have a kick about in the premier league. Some time soon.
