ok - it's effectively a satellite with 2 seats.

3 left, blinds 150/300. sb has 2800 and you on the the bb have 2300 before posting. the button has 8500 or so and passes.

sb shoves and has played pretty tightly most of the game but is now in shove mode. you suspect he's not even looked!

what do you need to call?

Any A, KQ etc, pp or fold.

Better to be the pusher than be pushed. Fold and pick YOUR spots when you have to.

any ace?

you'd take a 60/40 in this situation?
Report Ovalman. November 7, 2009 8:19 PM GMT
Every hand is situational. If he's been nickin your blinds regularly then yes I'll call a shove with an A or KQ. You've 10BB's and still plenty of play, I'd pick a spot rather than letting him do it for me.

Repeat, every hand is situational. There's no right answer to your question.

plenty of play? read again sir. you have 7 bbs with the sb to come and the bb again in 2 hands time hehe

and i wasn't the bb in this spot.

I also know that poker is "situational" lol - so what more do you want to knw?
Report Ovalman. November 7, 2009 8:25 PM GMT
sorry for answering your question. If you don't know the answer then how the hell am I supposed to?
Report dibble November 7, 2009 8:25 PM GMT
because if you're calling any ace looking for a 60/40 you should also call any K and any Q imo since we think he's shoving atc.

that's the basic question - is it better to take a 60/40 here or wait and shove into the big stack bb with rags since we know he's passive and hope this works long enough that the other two get into a fight?

I'm hoping to get a poker discussion going. there seems precious little of it around here
Report Soap November 7, 2009 8:27 PM GMT
I would call the range the poster suggests except would fold 22-55.

The fact he shoves usually means he aint got a monster
Report Soap November 7, 2009 8:28 PM GMT
and of course you should take a 60 40 in this situation - you are last of effectively 2 and have worst seat.
Report Soap November 7, 2009 8:30 PM GMT
*worst as :-

1) he will be shoving on you and you are more likely to get looked up (in theory) by bigstack
Report Ovalman. November 7, 2009 8:30 PM GMT
I would again stress situational!

If he's pushing every blind against you then by all means defend your blind otherwise fold and pick your spot.
Report dibble November 7, 2009 8:31 PM GMT
soap mate - there's no play and he's shoving pretty much all the time here. we prob must put him on atc

I just think that Ax to call is either way too tight or way too loose lol

but I think it's a call with any Qx tbh
Report dibble November 7, 2009 8:33 PM GMT
agree with that soap. bb has a horrible seat.

fwiw - I was the sb here.

but the thing is, there's no time for "play" and smart plays. you're blinded out in about 10 hands and stuffed in about 5.

I covered my cards up and shipped and the bb snap called with A9s. his call is obv right but I think he'd have needed much less to call tbh. again, Qx and Kx are prob calls too.

The question of whether you are ahead of someones shove range is an easy one. The only question to ask yourself in this situation is are you prepared to flip for the value of the seat and that should also be an easy one.

OK, nice stats but doesn't your graph tell you something?

Put your finger on your problem and you'll be straight back up there ;-)
