Just download VLC player @ http://www.vlc-media-player-free.info/

VLC has it's own plugins for playing different movie formats, so it doesn't need any codecs to be installe, It plays almost everything.

i don't know what a M4V file is but i have a free Jodix program that does some converting i wanted. try searching Jodix...

thanks both.

m4v files are itunes' proprietry format and include DRM which makes them a ball-ache to copy onto other devices I have to play my purchased films etc where I want to.

it's effectively a slightly modified mp4 format. the best I could manage was daniusoft media converter for about £25

hopefully it'll do the job.

i understand - tbf I'm generally of the type that likes to pay for stuff if it's on sale rather than copy it or pirate it.

just saw this post sry i wrnt quick enuff.
in future just go to katz.cd and type in any software they have it all. along with music, movies and so on

generally they will be legitimate copies that are on a trial. however they come with a activation code which is the piracy bit.
Always good to have the legit version any way.
