I think I'm going to catch this one in the Sports Bar in Leeds City Centre.  We planned a football Xmas night out on the 12th so this should give us something to from 3am onwards.  That is, if I'm still awake !!

nice haha, will they even show the fight at 6 a.m??

I wanted to post this video from firas zahabi (gsp/rory's trainer), it's a technical breakdown of the aldo conor fight, should be some great insight from one of the best coaches around. Seriously though this fight can't come around quick enough..

Whilst I'm a big Mcgregor fan and I want him to win...

11/8 on Aldo at Billies is a massive price.  I expected Aldo to be favorite in this fight.  Not much in it but was looking at Aldo been around 4/5.

Np frank, just finished watching it, very insightful, can see why he's one of the best coaches around. GJ on the aldo price WA if you took it, he's nearly evens now! I got an avg of 2.43, but will likely hedge most of it off before the weigh ins. there's just to many variables for me, I'm leaning aldo but I Could be tempted to play connor if aldo looks smaller at the weighins,or if he just looks like he struggled with the weight cut.

This card is stacked!

I think Aldo's gonna have some ring rust. It's been a year since he fought. McGregor's hittable but he's too big and long for Aldo. McGregor will look for the early KO but I don't think he will get it. Can't really see Aldo taking MCG down and I don't think MCG will really want to go to the ground either. I see McGregor winning possibly via TKO in about rd4/5

I just hope Mcgregor has taken note of the Rousey fight and doesn't fight on his emotions.  Yes it's a different ball game in this division but this fight has been lingering for a while now and well it's going to be tasty either way.

I like the price on Rockhold as well to beat Weidman.  I've always had Rockhold down as one that should go to the top the way he man handled Bisping and he looked about 3 weight divisions bigger than Bisping on that fight.  Weidman is a big guy as well though but again for a fight that is very close to call, 11/8 Rockhold is the play for me there with Skybet.

Looking at the many other great fights this week lined up....

Rose Namajunas to beat Paige Vanzant at 8/5.  I thought Namajunas would win the TUF competition so was a little disappointed to see her lose to Carla Esparza in the final.  She bounced back with a comfortable win against Angela Hill and is a technical fighter who can go far in the women's division.  Vanzant is no pushover but I can't have her been such a big favourite, maybe it's cause she is blonde and good looking that the UFC think she is marketable and everyone has fallen into the trance.  But it's Namajunas for me.

Will be good to see Sage Northcutt again, but at 1/10 he's no betting material, but let's see if he is going to be as good as they think he will be.

Joe Lauzon at 13/8 to beat Evan Dunham. Joe was on a roll till he came unstuck against Iaquinta.  Dunham shocked everyone by wrestling Ross Pearson into a defeat in Scotland.  Again at the prices, Lauzon is just too big not to back.

Last one will be Warlley Alves to beat Colby Covington at 21/20.  Tough fight but Alves impressed me in the Brazil TUF and is one that I want to keep on the right side of especially at anything about Evens.

That is all !!

3 days 3 cards, farewell sleeping pattern! I can't believe we made it to this point where none of the main fighters got injured!! not sure if ring rust will play a huge factor, but you never know. I think Aldo's injury from the initial fight has actually improved his chances here, he's had a lot of time to prepare, especially in the psychological department for connor's **** talking and insults.  I can see aldo taking conor down, he has some of the best jiu jitsu in the sport, we just don't see it that often because of his incredible muay thai arsenal, he just doesn't need to use it against a lot of opponents, someone else said "he keeps his grappling as a ace up his sleeve" in case he needs it, like an extra dimension to his game that connor most likely cannot match, if it hits the floor I'd be a bit worries for connor as aldo has excellent guard passes once he takes his opponents down, and he's going to be able to threaten more than chad did.

some quick breakdowns:

Agreed about Rose, Her technique is better everywhere bar maybe wrasslin, my main concern for rose is she has been known to wilt under pressure, which could be an issue as this is a 5 rounder. She will likely be less nervous than page as she's already fought for the belt and that experience could be invaluable and this is 5 rounds, but she looks in better shape than ever from the open workouts.

I thought the lines would of opened what they did but with rose the fav and page the underdog. As you said lol I think it's partly down to her looks/hype and exposure the ufc have given her, she's one of the few fighters in the ufc to have an exclusive deal with Reebok, which possibly attracted casual fans to her price? to be fair to page she has made excellent improvements, although she's still far from the finished product, but training with team alpha male, is a great camp for her due to their avg size and amazing technique/training partners. think I'll keep my rose bet small medium, with some sub/ko props for both fighters.

Sage's Moneyline is unplayable but I see real value in the under 1.5 @ evens, will hedge small on sage round 4/5 ko and pfhister ko too. Rooting for pfister though, he seems a likable and nice kid, much like sage but not as goody too shoes. there's not many bigger underdogs than Cody that I can remember lol and he looked tiny next to sage at the weigh ins. looked like a meth dealer vs a superhero in terms of physique lol.

also like Chiesa outright @ just above evens when i got the line (1.8 now at time of writing) and miller by sub, miller has been grinded down by larger opponents before and Chiesa excels at that style of fighting. but he has to be weary of the guillotine among other subs as miller is a high level submission artist and will be very dangerous in the first round or 2, great fight though, this ones underrated, we could see a really cool grappling fight here.

Tim means i like too, managed to get him @ 1.67 on stanley james when he was 1.3 everywhere else! Howard is extremely consistent in his inconsistency to throw many punches/kicks at all doing the bare minimum to win a round, he does have good muay thai but means relentless pressure, better ground game and his more diverse striking game and nasty elbows (watch his fight with matt brown who is top 5 material for an awesome elbow strike demonstration from both). Howard's coming to the end of his career,  he got viciously KO'd 2 fights ago and in his last fight edged cathal pendred(who is just a terrible fighter who achieved a lot for someone with no technique or background in the sport to be fair) in a lackluster fight that many thought Cathal would win. means should win this all day.

Oh yeah!!! for anyone betting on tonight's and tomorrow's cards be aware that BOTH events have the smaller size octagon as they're at a smaller casino in vegas rather than mandalay bay like 194.

Elias Theodorou (11-0) vs. Thiago Santos (11-3)

Prelims (on UFC Fight Pass)
Tim Means (24-7-1) vs. John Howard (23-11)
Omari Akhmedov (15-2) vs. Sergio Moraes (9-2)
Antonio Carlos Junior (5-1) vs. Kevin Casey (9-3, 1 NC)
Aljamain Sterling (11-0) vs. Johnny Eduardo (27-9)
Santiago Ponzinibbio (20-3) vs. Andreas Stahl (9-1)

Zubaira Tukhugov (17-3) vs. Phillipe Nover (11-5-1)

Ihave watch both mens fights time and time again and i still find it hard to call the winner, Conors southpaw style  could be a godsend to Aldo kicking across to catch his right knee slowing Conor down for the late rounds, unlike a lot of fans I think this could go all the way.I hope im wrong but Aldo may have to much for Conor but if its very close Conor might get the nod from the judges,.. UFC WANT  Mcgregor TO WIN. AS DELBOY WOULD SAY YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.

wow that video made me nostalgic lol,  where's the just bleed guy when you need him :P yeah conor's knees could be a big target for aldo's ruthless kicks., I heard conor had stem cell injections for his recovery, and it supposedly worked pretty well (heard of other people having success with them too)

anyone see the Moraes KO? wow that came out of no where, means KO was sweet, howard's chin is shot though, It wasn't a huge shot but means still looked great. going very small on santos here

Nice start to the week with Namajunas.  Worked out pretty much as I had hoped it would.

TUF 22 Finale tonight, not watched the last episode as yet but did read the report on Junkie.  Shame to hear Saul Rogers kicked out, not sure what he did wrong exactly but I thought he would go far.  The final tonight has a bit of a taint on it really as Ryan Hall was well beaten by Saul earlier on despite looking head and shoulders above everyone else on the ground.  He faces Artem Lobov who is McGregor's training partner.  He lost in the pre-lims but was given a second chance and has made his way to the final.  Lobov doesn't defend himself (hands down all the time) and I think Rogers would have picked him off, Ryan Hall I don't think, has the power to KO him.  Expect Lobov to win late on as long as he keeps it standing.  But at the prices, I can't get overly excited with anything.

Julian Erosa vs Marcin Wrozosek should be a good stand up fight, both have shown they like to stand and trade.  But once again, the prices don't excite me to have a punt on the event.

Would have taken Frankie Edgar to beat Chad Mendes but with most of plays on the value side of things, I don't think Frankie deserves to be as short as he is.  Had I got 10/11 both fighters then Edgar would have been a possible play.  I don't think either can beat Aldo or McGregor once they get the title shot after the fights this weekend.

I'll probably leave this card alone except to cheer on Lauzon from my previous picks.

anyone seen the ferguson barboza fight last night? it was incredible! tony took a beating and walked right through it like it was nothing, an absolute war with 2 of the best  striking technicians in the division and the sport. really impressed me. he could very well win the belt. I knew he would be in contendership a couple years ago, wasn't sure if he stood a chance to win the belt though until last night. And who the **** saw frankie KO rnd 1 happening, must admit i had that capped wrong, still a good night bet wise.oO Crazy night, he should get the next shot regardless of the outcome tomorrow imo.

I think im in the minority here lurka but I thought conor looked pretty good at the weigh ins compared to the mendes fight at least. he had a lot more energy, not nearly as pale, and he sounded MUCH more with it. even with the IV ban. don't think it will affect the fight much though.

anyone else liking jacare's chances tonight? i think he gets the job done, heard rumours romero has been having a lot of injuries later in his career(not sure if these are accurate or not. he's pretty old too. I think the romero that should of lost to tim kennedy get's owned here. ppl are overating his win over Machia who's a shadow of his former self.

Good week all round, Namajunas, Rockhold and Alves all winning, only Lauzon missing out for a decent acca.  That said, I still made a nice sum this week.

On reflection.......

Did the mind games cost Aldo or was it part of the plan. He kept his head down for all the pre-fight introductions including meeting in the middle with the ref.  He had zero eye contact with Conor until the fight began.  When the KO happened, I can honestly say I didn't see the punch.  I saw Aldo land and then fall over, thought he had stumbled !!  The replays showed it significantly different !!  It was a little bit of  a let down especially for the neutrals.  Whilst it was a sensational stoppage to a title fight in the quickest ever time, it was also such a let down that we didn't get to see the whole fight pan out in due course.  I'm over the moon for Conor though and the world is his oyster now, Edgar at 145 or the winner of Dos Anjos vs Cerrone next week at 155.  The one thing I will give him though is go back to the world tour and they had a Q & A session with all the top fighters in attendance.  Conor stole the show whilst everyone else (Cerrone and co..) were dissing him saying that Aldo would kill him etc...  Well, looks like they should all be taking a slice of that humble pie on Sunday morning !!

Luke Rockhold won the fight as I expected him to.  He is a big guy and so dominant when he gets on top of you.  He looked very comfortable and it could well have been finished at the end of round 2 when he smashed Weidman to pieces in the full mount.  I'll give Weidman a lot of respect for hanging tough but it was nice to see a fighter you had backed win in such a defiant way.  The Conor win overshadowed what should have been a headline win for Rockhold.

Damien Maia looked top drawer against what should have been a massive test in Gunnar Nelson.  4 wins on the bounce now and the only thing missing was the finish to the fight.  Maybe another chance at having a go at Rory MacDonald ? Or a fight against Matt Brown would be good.  Warlley Alves can go onto bigger and better things but this welterweight division is stacked high that he isn't even in the top 20 yet.  Who next for him... Erick Silva or Thiago Alves maybe in a Battle of Brazil ?

Quick look at next week and early indications for me are Junior Dos Santos will have too much for Overeem.  I always looked at Overeem's size and thought he should have been the dominant heavyweight for many years but it just never materialised.  A few wins on the bounce put him in the mix but Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve are no Junior Dos Santos and I expect Cigano to overpower him in the 2nd round and Overeem will wilt when he starts taking the heavy shots again.  Dos Anjos vs Cerrone... well I love Cowboy, he always entertains.  Dos Anjos took a 29-28 decision over Cerrone the last time they fought, but that was over 2 years ago.  Cerrone has gone on a streak since then and is a much improved fighter.  Dos Anjos is a worthy champ after battering Pettis but Cowboy at almost 2-1 is too big for me and I have to have a play at that !!

Good to see so many fighters having to eat humble pie. A lot don't like McGregor because of how he acts but he's pure entertainment in the ring and out of the ring. Because of this I see him as a very likeable bloke but I know a lot of people don't agree.

Imagine everyones reaction if it was vice versa and Aldo had KO'd Conor in 13 seconds!?

The Mcgregor era is here and here to stay.
By:

Don't forget though, Aldo landed a clean shot on McGregor as well, ok it was milliseconds after he was KO'd and on the way down but still it was a clean shot and Conor took it well to be able to go straight for the hammer fists to get the fight stopped.
