25 yo Colombian rider Julien Arredondo is making his Grand Tour debut in this race for Trek Factory Racing, after the USA team looked to expand its roster with climbing talent, and found a likely candidate after observing Julien’s impressive 2013 season with the Continental team, Team Nippo-De Rosa, an Italian outfit based in Japan.
The 10 stage Tour de Langkawi is probably his best race so far, in his short three year pro career, which he won on GC by over a minute from Pieter Weening, joining fellow countryman and two-time winner Jose Serpa as the latest Colombian rider to win the hot and steamy race along the Malaysian Peninsular. He followed that up with a 2nd place finish and a win in two Japanese stage races respectively, before failing in the Tour de Korea in 23rd place. He is taking a massive step-up in class here, and has little chance of placing, but I think he is definitely one to watch closely to see how he performs, and if there is room for improvement in developing him further. 1000/1 at 1/5 top-10 is about right. Nice work with the preview MC, although I think the inclusion of the teams' jerseys detracts a little. Cheers, SP |

See what you mean about the jerseys. Could have left that for the section on contenders.
