Having just finished watching a recording of this morning’s London Marathon, it was interesting to contrast Mo Farah’s running style with more experienced marathon runners. It looks like his stride length is longer and his cadence a little slower. He also has a lot of arm movement, which is something Alberto Salazar has instilled in him to increase his power on the track.
About ten years ago, when Haile Gebreselassie made the switch from track to road running, he remodelled his running style, reducing knee lift to increase his economy at longer distances. I’m wondering if Mo Farrah’s ‘track honed’ running style might be a problem for him when he steps up to the full marathon next year.
