long time since some of us got together on here , re athletic training. hes 14 and i wonder what anyone thinks of this coaching im going to give him,
day 1   5x 150  fast up 40m floating 80m fast last 30m
day 3   8x 60fast
day 5   3x 250m similar to above
day 7   8 x 30 m  fast
anyone advice if its ok etc , or should i be doing few 400m training for his 300m , or should he be hammering the 150/ 250 aboveas fast as poss,  when i mean floating, its still on a quick pace, its just i read its the way to run the 200m,/ 300m .

the biggest mistake at 14 would be to over-train - limbs and strength are still developing.

I've seen many potentially excellent athletes and footballers ruined at 20 by over-training and not giving young limbs/muscles time to develop...

My view is this and I assume he is being trained to run 300 metres???....

For stamina - maybe do some 400m work once a week....3 x 400 metre runs at decent pace - twice a week

For speed - maybe do some 50m work - do 6 intervals 5 mins apart - 3 times per week.

For strength and stamina and to help muscles/frame develop SWIM - sensibly 2 -3 times per week.....i.e get in a pool for an hour 3 times per week and build thigh and stomach muscles in an environment that will place FAR less burden on developing frame

Obviosuly DIET is also very important!
