Any thoughts on this chaps? Doesn't look like a sprinter festival like last year ... some big hills probably keeps Goss, Greipel, Haussler, Meyer out of it. Ed BH as SKY normally turn up ready, Valverde (hope he's been doing some riding in the last two years holiday) look interesting. How about a quid on Hesjedal as an outsider?

A decent mix of stages means it is a wide open race to start the year.
EBH is a worthy favourite whereas Gerrans is a truly shocking price in my opinion (let's hope there is no carve up).
I will start of with 2 big prices against the field...
The undoubtedly talented but underachieving Linus Gerdemann at 80/1
Last year's 12th place finisher and the most likely leader of the Euskatel team Gorka Izagirre at an insulting price of 100/1!

Disappointing that Betfair have no odds for the stage. Sporting bet have Goss at 11-1 so I've had a bit of that. No value with Greipel though ... they had him at 4-5!!

Greipel wins a messy first stage, hardly in the style befitting a 4/5 fav especially as lots of the sprinters were caught in the crash about 10km from the finish.

The female spectators were very lucky indeed, could easily have been a disaster on the 1st day.
Did you see the girl in the blue hat?! She was so lucky. Looked like her Mum had Roelandts in her lap but luckily only had cuts and bruises .... and a Dura Ace derailleur in her shoe!!

Valverde far far too good for this lot but obviously it was impossible to know how he would ride after so long out of the game, will be a fascinating addition to the grand tours this season, still a stinking dirty cheat however. Losing start to the season but very long way to go, congrats to anyone who backed Gerrans, personally I think the guy is throwing his career away for easy money.
Hopefully we can get a decent cycling community going throughout the season.
