Thomas took the yellow jersey in 2004 and made a good fist of defending it for 10 days when he was a relatively inexperienced rider. At that time he was up against Armstrong, Ullrich, Basso, Hamilton, Kloden, Sastre, Rasmussen and Virenque.

Seven years on, he has regained the maillot jaune and one can see him putting up a most determined battle to hang onto it on the slopes to Luz Ardiden.

Good luck to him, his attacking style is great to watch.

Got to love Tommy, but the amount of work he has got through in the first week is a serious concern.
Expecting him to be dropped on the Tourmalet

Tom and Phillipe put the cat amongst the pigeons today with that bold attack in the last 15kms. It was just great to see the yellow and green jerseys smashing on and sending shock waves through the peleton.

Phillipe did well to finish 14th in the sprint after burying himself when on the attack.
