Why dont BF put up all the riders for each stage, would be much quicker than randomly selecting the 60 or so they currently put up? They manage it for golf, so it isnt an issue of volume of runners in the market.

When they did put all the riders in a few years ago it certainly was an issue of volume of runners in the market as anyone who was around at the time would confirm. I'm not sure why because golf is, and was, ok. Golf typically has 160 runners whereas the Tour starts with 198 and for whatever reason there seemed to be a tipping point (170 - 180 runners ?) where the market got exponentially slower and more unusable. It was actually because of this that I started looking into using the API and now I do most of my betting that way
Maybe the site can handle 200 runners now, I don't know. To me, the most important thing is that stage markets are actively managed and generally these days they are. That was another problem when they put all the runners up because they figured they could just leave it unmanaged. So riders in the break weren't brought to the top of the market, riders who retired weren't omitted between stages, mountain stages had all the sprinters at the top etc...
