Another fabulous first week stage, the longest stage of the tour at 226.5km, very bumpy stage with a couple of cat 3 and a cat 4 climb plus a rise in the ground about 3km from the end.
Gilbert is fav again but it is 7/2 the field and the Belgian's chances must be diminished by a flat last km.
A tough stage to bet on and a possibly stayaway stage for a breakaway makes it even more difficult.
3 random picks against the field for me are
EBH (clearly back to feeling 100% after his blast off the front yesterday)
Cancellara
Danny Oss

Heavy rain falling, escape about 10 mins clear, not that anybody is bothered.
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 12:53 PM BST
This break may stick tbh.
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 12:57 PM BST
Poor weather gives them more chance.
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 1:06 PM BST
Exactly, seen it a few times now when a cold and wet peleton chooses not to take any risks chasing a breakaway down.
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 1:14 PM BST
They will have to chase it down to some extent, Garmin especially with Roux only 2:28 behind Hushovd in yellow.

hagen a good bet for this stage????????//
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 2:26 PM BST
Worth a sheckel or two for sure
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 2:32 PM BST
No chance for the break. Gilbert, Cavendish or Rojas will win the sprint. Hagen is not in good form, so not a good bet I think
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 2:37 PM BST
Why do you say EBH not in good form?
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 2:50 PM BST
EBH had shingles before start of the Tour. He tried his best in the first stages bet never even finished in top 10. EBH in good form would have done much better with finishes like the ones we had in the last few stages
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 2:50 PM BST
He put in a massive burst at the end yesterday but apparently told norwegian tv afterwards he didn't realise the line was as far away as it was...
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 2:51 PM BST
It's a valid point but he looked okay when he blasted off the front yesterday. He just gets a little excited at the business end but has the talent to win a stage ike today IMO.
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 2:53 PM BST
He got up to about 73km/h which suggests to me that he feels pretty good.
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 2:53 PM BST
Riders in good form no where the finish line is ;)
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 2:54 PM BST
no = know
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 2:54 PM BST
Lolol Cool
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 2:56 PM BST
He only had to glance at the huge marker boards that break down the last 500 metres!
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 3:12 PM BST
Do you think this finish is to steep for Cavendish? HTC leading the bunch, so Cavendish must think he has a chance..
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 3:15 PM BST
The finish flattens out in the last km after a fairly steep previous 2km, Cav can win if he can get there, big if though.
HTC could be working for Goss, more likely adopting a wait and see tactic.
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 3:16 PM BST
I've read HTC are working for Goss today? It's on a letour website anyway.
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 3:29 PM BST
Cav no longer in peloton says letour.fr?
Report GoBallistic July 7, 2011 3:31 PM BST
I don't understand HTC bringing this back for Goss. Just gifting points to Rojas, Gilbert and Hushovd if they are. Why not let those teams do the donkey work ?
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 3:36 PM BST
Maybe it's a bluff for all the other sprinters GB. It was a quote on letour.fr from Allan Peiper, one of the HTC management.
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 3:37 PM BST
Had a few quid on Tony Martin, his TT expertise could suit this finish.
Report LazyRamper July 7, 2011 3:40 PM BST
Cavendish can win but it'll be like yesterday, so no point making a train for him.
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 3:52 PM BST
Cav back in the group, the market new
Report atallbloke July 7, 2011 3:59 PM BST
Hmmn wet roads near finish..anything could happen.
Report Mazzel July 7, 2011 4:08 PM BST
Lol, did not expect that
Report GoBallistic July 7, 2011 4:10 PM BST

Very pleased for Sky winning their first Tour stage, onwards and upwards for them.
Report do13 July 7, 2011 4:14 PM BST
EBH mentioned a few times on this thread ! Pity I didnt take the advice! He was at 15s when I looked towards end of stage.  What prices did anyone get ?
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 4:18 PM BST
I got some 17.5, 2 good wins in 2 days now, pleased as usually do better in the mountains.
Report fallenangel July 7, 2011 4:20 PM BST
got 17's as i though he did well yesterday (just cocked up his timing).
asked what everyone thought but only MIM seemed to like my bet
Report Lusitano71 July 7, 2011 4:22 PM BST
I only layed Gilbert, I was a bit worried but all went well in the end

good call fallenangel and MIM
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 4:24 PM BST
Gilbert incapable of stringing it together in a grand tour shocker!
Report MeatIsMurder July 7, 2011 4:24 PM BST
Well done fallenangel
