Will invest £1000 during the season. Rules are simple. 1%-2% on outrights. 1-2 % on Top 3 markets. 5% on H2H's
I will bet % of the starting £1000 all the way. Should I reach £5000, I will leave this forum for this season.
One can debate what the best % is to bet, from a starting £1000, if 5% is too much. However, this is my money and my strategy. If anyone wishes to follow, please make sure you got enough money left for rent and dipers for the kids. % is just for guidance, use your own money management, should you follow any picks. I will use "normal bookies". But I will inform if any other bookmaker has a higher price for my pick that I am aware of. Always check if you can get higher price at Betfair (most likely though, the market will be pretty weak, and if it is some action, mostly it's early morning and the last hour to start)
I will always post picks the day before a race that I bet on, in this topic. Most likely in the evening.
With that said, time to gain some money hopefully.
Women's Giant Slalom - Soelden (Austria) 23/10 09.00 UK Time ---------------------------------------------------------
Victoria Rebensburg to win 12,00 Stake £10 Unibet Victoria Rebensburg Top 3 4,00 Stake £20 Unibet Maria Pietalae-Holmner Top 3 10,00 Stake £10 Unibet Katrin Hoelz to win 10,00 Stake £10 Bwin
The forecast is for a few plus degrees tomorrow and the importancy of the startnumber can not be overrated.
Rebensburg goes out first, so a smooth track for her. A lot of speed in this girl and finished 4th last year in the Giant Slalom standings. I expect her to have a good season and the price is simply too big in my opinion
The Swede Maria Pietalae-Holmner has NEVER finished in the Top 3 from 38 races in the World Cup, Giant Slalom. That is very surprising, knowing that she has a silver medal from the World Champs and is a very talented skiier. However, she has been working with a psychologist to be better prepared to "give it all in two runs", and not finishing a decent 6th-8th anymore. I think this season she can prove dangerous and at 9/1 for a Top 3, I have to invest. Startnumber 8 should be fair enough.
Hoelz won the Giant Slalom cup easily last year. Her worst position was 7th in Soelden actually. After that, she was almost every time on the podium and won twice. To get 9/1 for her to win, with starting position 2, is very good indeed.
A very nice start to the season and for once, spot on with theory pre-race and what actually happened in the race. Some interesting notes made on a few skiiers for the next Giant Slalom in around 1 month time also. Pietalae-Holmner was the only disappointment. But Rebensburg's win more than made up for that.
Within an hour I will come with picks for the Mens' Giant Slalom tomorrow. This looks even more interesting than today pre-race!

Men's Giant Slalom - Soelden (Austria) 24/10 09.00 UK Time ---------------------------------------------------------
Davide Simoncelli to win 21,00 £20 (Centrebet, Skybet, BWin), almost every bookie 19,00 or more. Davide Simoncelli Top 3 6,50 £20 , BWin Ted Ligety to win 6,50 £20, Skybet/BWin (6,40 available Betfair at the moment, try to get in on at higher price here if possible)
The forecast says even a bit warmer than today and also rain/snow is in the mix. That means the startnumbers for the first run will have even more significance. In the Women's race, the race was decided straight away. So the low numbers has a super advantage here.
Simoncelli is an Italian I really like. When he is on, he sure is on. Startnumber 3 is very good, any higher would have been a big disadvantage. 4th in the Giant Slalom cup last season and 2nd in the final race to Janka in Garmisch half a year ago. This odds is simply too high. Very much too high infact. This is a must bet for anyone who reads this. My pick of the day and 2% both on winner and top 3.
I also have to go with Ligety at 11/2. He won the Giant Slalom cup last year with some margin. He has drawn bid number one and that is nothing but an extreme advantage. With a lot of the pre-race favs drawn high numbers, Ligety looks set to start the season strongly and anything over 4/1 to me is value. Last two seasons in Soelden, he has been 3rd and 2nd. I would not be surprised if he goes on better tomorrow and he is the race fav.
Good luck with your bets.

The Men's Giant Slalom got cancelled, after the 1st run. So all the bets void. Ligety and Simoncelli both were a few hundreds of the seconds from the lead, so cant say I was too pleased to see it got cancelled. Anyway, money back and next event is slalom in Levi (Finland) for both the Men and the Women in a couple of weeks time.
New chances then!//

Men's Overall World Cup Winner 2010/2011 Cross Country
Alexander Legkov 33/1 Betfred Stake £20
If you do not have an account there yet, make one for this bet. All other books (I think) has slashed it. The reason is simple. Legkov, 2nd in the standings 3 seasons ago, today won a 15km free race in Beitostolen, Norway. This was just a prep-race ahead of next weeks start of the World Cup. Legkov demolished the opposition. Over a minute faster than the best Norwegian for example. This despite him being training extremely hard in the past. If this is anything to go with for the season (and it mostly is), 33/1 is nothing but an amazing bet and he will challenge Northug for the overall title if this display is what we are gonna get in the season.
