I thought chambers would be the solid choice here, but now I'm not very confident.

Lemaitre looks up for it - could be close between the 2.

But it would not be a big shock at all for the real class, Francis Obiklewu, to win this again - he was joggin at the end and didnt bother reactin on the gun - then bolted for 20m. Which Obiklewu have we got this time, he looks fit and he is 3-4m better than Chambers at his best, 20.0 other winner looks interesting, he looks sharp. Does he still have anwhere near top form ?

Just want to lay Dwain the place 1.03.At the end of the day he is tainted goods.Hope for a hamstring?
Report pwhite587 July 28, 2010 7:43 PM BST
He's old (semi retired last summer) and hasn't ran anything quick in a couple of years. He finished behind the young Irish sprinter (Jason Smyth) at the Eoropa League division 1 earlier this summer.

All in all, it's hard to see where he can pull a 10 second clocking from. Saying he is the class of the field is like saying Allen Johnson is the class of a current 110 hurdles field against a couple of 13 second athletes.
Report desertheat July 28, 2010 8:15 PM BST
pwhite,

you may be right, but my eyes say he has significantly more in the tank from the semi final. Michael Johnson confirmed my opinion, and he's rarely far off the mark. Chambers is no world beater and Lemaitre may be the better even now, but Obikwelu is still only 32 and far from past it I think for now...
Report desertheat July 28, 2010 8:21 PM BST
Allen Johnson is overthehill and considerably older so thats a poor anology. Chambers is not a 13 dead euivalent class IMO - though that part is a reasonable anaology, but Chambers is no spring Chicken himself and is just starting to decline I think...
Report Fela Kuti July 28, 2010 8:21 PM BST
Obikwelu is actually 31 and for me is a knocking price. 48 for the win and 4 for top 3. 31 for a sprinter is not old at all.

What time will this actually start? Thanks
Report desertheat July 28, 2010 8:30 PM BST
around 8.45 I think
Report desertheat July 28, 2010 8:45 PM BST
Lookin at them semi's again i couldnt touch Chambers or Lemaitre at those prices - then 1st and 2nd in the 3rd semi are certainly not out of this.

Chambers always performs but not sure he can hold on  - maybe  the pressure will get to the 'big 2'

Championship temprament is all important imv... Chambers runs well on the big occasion, does the French guy? Big question!

For me Chambers wins... Wouldn't want to be an odds-on backer though!

This is what i was referring too. He puts in his first half decent performance in years and suddenly throws out the 'i'm back, this proves everyone wrong' crap. Try running quicker than you did at 20 years of age Mark!

He is coached by fellow appalling human being drug cheat Linford Christie who just so happens to be a drug cheat to throw into the bargain so no real surprise at his attitude.
Report freebetterisbettertobe July 28, 2010 9:31 PM BST
A big championship final and over 10 seconds for first place in 100m final. Must laugh when compared to other sprinters like Bolt, Gay, Powell and probably more.
