It seems that the quality of mens European athletics track events has plumetted in recent years, mirroring Europe's importance in the world more generally (though we have the nicest old buildings and the best opera!).
Can anyone name any men's track athlete at these championships who would be likely to get into a World or Olympic final.

It shows how distance running in the UK (and Europe fwiw) has dropped in the last 20/30 years. I think there is a psychological exceptance that the Africans are unbeatable so the effort isnt there as the reward for being World number 1 and appearance fees is unobtainable
Problem for European men is that the Jamicans/Americans dominate the sprints/400m and the Africans most of the other track events. Hard to see that changing for several years. Farah looks good at Euro level but will have to improve a lot to win a medal at London Olympics.
Can see Seb Coe holding the UK 800 record for at least 20 more years. Only two men in the world (kipketer, Rudisha) have ever run faster. A fantastic time even now and this year's Euro champion won't be anywhere near it.
