I just grab a cushion from the sofa. Wrap it in a supermarket bag in case it rains and just smuggle it back into the house.

Job done.

There's a very good website called wiggle.co.uk

I get most of my gear from there. I prefer a gel saddle but they do have a huge range on there.

massive thumbs up to wiggle, bought plenty from them, customer service is excellent

rather than buy a new saddle you might want to consider something like this, reviews seem pretty good:

I've had one of those Eldrick and didn't like it. Slips out of position and became misshapen. Could just be that I''ve goit a big @rse of course :D

If you've got the storage space you could get yourself a cheap and cheerful reasonably ligtweight hybrid which you could trash as you get used to cycling again.

I'd also say to give yourself time if you're just returned to cycling. We can all struggle on hills but the more you do them the easier it gets.

thanks all....was cycling past a local suite manufacturer yesterday when I saw they had thrown some foam rubber in the skip....3 layers of that bound to my saddle with heavy duty duct tape and voila...no numb bum.

Watch the tape in the rain though :D

Well done mate

Decent cycling shorts make a massive difference as well.. gl with the cycling lay.

any seat will feel like a pile of peebles if you are new back to cycling.
Just needs your rear to get used to it.
When i came back into cycling could hardly sit down on a normal chair after initial rides wasnt the seat just the @rs not used to it.

That foam rubber could get a bit heavy in the rain! Might start to pong after a while too!

Good suggestions on this thread I reckon, esp the shorts and just taking the pain till you get used to it. Also, check out www.sheldonbrown.com for advice on relieving the pains of cycling - riding position, weight distribution etc.

Didn't realise there were so many cyclists on Betfair. Could Boris Johnson's assertion that there is a 'surge' in cycling be true? I'd kinda like to think so.
