If you've got the storage space you could get yourself a cheap and cheerful reasonably ligtweight hybrid which you could trash as you get used to cycling again.
I'd also say to give yourself time if you're just returned to cycling. We can all struggle on hills but the more you do them the easier it gets.

well 4th time out this morning and as a 45 year old I decided to see how far up a local hill I could get which is a mile all the way up....fairly steep first 1/4 mile then a steady climb after that. only went all the way to the top....I put my baseball cap on and just looked at the road directly in front without thinking of the climb ahead....great sence of achievment and definitely a mental barrier conquered.

I allways look @ the road 10 yards or so in front never directly to the top of any hill. Depends how steep you hills are & how fit you are. Im fittest ive ever been but still use a triple chainset 30 cog front with 26 rear as some of the hills in the locality are up to 1/5 (20%) & 1/4 in places. Beauty is never have to get off.
