Hey thanks
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:21 PM GMT
Right ok. What market are you in at the moment?
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:21 PM GMT
Im new to betfair but not to gambling. I've made a lot of money backing bets, not really keen on laying. I hear people talking about trading out. What does this mean? And when is the best time to Lay?
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:21 PM GMT
I bet mainly on Football Cricket and Tennis
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:21 PM GMT
Ill tell you what I can, but most of when and should is a judgement call
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:22 PM GMT
ok go into the Real Madrid match odds market
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:23 PM GMT
you there?
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:23 PM GMT
Ok im in there
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:24 PM GMT
Right, above the pink lay box click more options and tix the what if? box
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:25 PM GMT
tick it I mean
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:25 PM GMT
Ok i have selected that option
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:26 PM GMT
Right, now lets say you back Malaga for £20. Do that but dont press confirm.

So odds 19.5 and stake 20
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:27 PM GMT
dont press Place Bets though
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:27 PM GMT
Yes i have done that @19.5
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:27 PM GMT
you should see

Red -20 Madrid
Green +370 Malaga
Red -20 Draw
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:28 PM GMT
Yes i see that
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:30 PM GMT
Right now assuming you have done that and Malaga are 1-0 up with say ten minutes to go, the price might then be

Madrid 10.0
Malaga 1.55
Draw 2.2

for example

you could then lay Malaga so click the pink LAY box and put in

Odds 1.55 Backers Stake £200

again, dont press Place Bets
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:31 PM GMT
Ok i have done that @ 1.55
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:31 PM GMT
you will then see
RM + 180
Malaga + 200
Draw + 180

(again green = profit)
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:33 PM GMT
Yeah i see that. I think I'm beginning to understand the concept.
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:33 PM GMT
Right now lets assume that you have just done that when Real Madrid equalise.

The odds might now be

Madrid 2.5
Draw 1.4
Malaga 20

so now you could lay the draw @ 1.4

so put in a LAY of the draw for odds 1.4 backers stake £150

again dont press Place Bets
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:35 PM GMT
your traders book is now looking like

Real Madrid + 330
Malaga +410
Draw +120
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:36 PM GMT
obviously that is a ludicrously idealised example, but thats the idea. Traders try to back high, lay low and minmise liability (or red) and try to get an all green (profit) screen when they can.

This might be by backing at 1.9 and laying at 1.8 or backing at 20 and laying at 1.5 like you have just done in the example.

Very difficult to do in practise though.
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:37 PM GMT
Anyway, thats the idea, good luck mate.
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:38 PM GMT
Ok i understand a bit more. I had a general idea. It obviously harder in real life as you have to rely on scores to go your way. I backed city at 1.64 £75. I dont think they will go on to win so i may try this method seeing as they have just equalised.
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:39 PM GMT
Thanks for the help! I appreciate it. :)
Report marychain1 January 24, 2010 3:39 PM GMT
I laid City at 1.55 and then again @ 1.2 so am going to back them now I think.
Report Neekz January 24, 2010 3:46 PM GMT
Good job i didn't LAy City. Was gonna do it at half time! They'll go on to win now.
Report knobs January 24, 2010 3:51 PM GMT
Fairplay Marychain,

Dont lay off bets myself as didnt know enough about what to do

good to see someone without an attitude problem when somebody new to trading asks a question unlike others in football/racing forum

I thank you sir :-)
