is it possible for someone at sky sports having a gamble knowing they are going to run the 'bolton want coyle' story?
Alex, can i ask your thoughts now?is it possible for someone at sky sports having a gamble knowing they are going to run the 'bolton want coyle' story?
1.79 does not strike me a price of a winner in these markets Alex. But you are right, do not oppose strongly. Unfortunately I had already had a little dabble to the contrary

In the words of Tom Jones, "it is not unusual". The odds often move in the 30 minutes or so before SSN publish their story.
Coyle now sits at 1.86-1.9 and I am doing nothing with is at that price. It would be dangerous to lay however, imo.

Fortunately my bets were matched whilst I was away. I see Coyle was matched at 1.32. £150 K matched on him too. Juicy.
I suspect we'll have a bit of movement tonight after the Burnley game one way or the other.
I suspect that even if he is interested Burnley will refuse permission for him to speak to Bolton.
At the time of the Megson appointment they were refused permission to speak to Chris Coleman and they moved on and then apparently Paul Jewell said he wasn't keen on another relegation battle. Peter Reid was also strongly linked then too.

It would appear possible given the money. How bizarre you would negotiate a get out clause for 'Bolton' lol But I guess Burnley were no hopers at that stage
Checking the main thread it's hardly surprising so many get these markets horribly wrong. Curbishley apparently perishes of cold if he sets foot north of the Watford gap.

Good ere innit. When I surfaced a short while ago Curbs was last matched at 2.2 ish!
No need to repeat the articles. Most seem to be on the beeb gossip site. The papers to seem to be relatively consistent, ie Coyle if a deal can be done and if not Curbs. So my plan is just to level the two of those up while not taking mega reds on the rest.

Another small profit here. I was too happy to lay Coyle early on. Still, the strategy has never let me down yet, and is unlikely to unless the new manager takes post within 24 hours of the market starting.
Curbs to Burnley then. Or is that a bit norfish?

Small profits are good. Too many people lose by getting greedy and out of their depth and it looks, yet again as if we have been doing much the same thing.
A Norfish? Is that a relative of the Garfish?

GeorgeBrush 03 Jan 12:08 I do look forward to the Burnley market Alex. It couldn't be Curbishley. Never in a million billion years
Never rule anything out. Even George Graham.
Any news on the Garfish relationship with the Norfish? I have not been able to find that on google.
I have Holloway and Cough money first being taken at 360.0 btw. But we are ok, I can say that coz nobody ever comes over here.

My Tolkien glossary lists the Norfish people as a tribe able to resist temperatures down to -170 in their underpants, particularly after imbibing the locally produced mead.
It seems unlikely Curbishley would contemplate associating with such types unless he can manage the club from home via the miracle of the internet. I believe Keane did that at Sunderland, so it is not without precedent

Given your hot underpants theory I will now lay to 1000.0 any Nigerian and Yemini trained managers that might appear on the list.
I reckon Curbs is a prospect. But only if a Coyle deal cannot be done.
For the moment we are treading water and anything can happen. I am doing very little and just waiting for action. It should not be long.

In fact this is an interesting analysis of betfair users habits.
I play safe and just level up Coyle and Curbs with no reds at all. A modest return I accept but I don't think I am gambling. Clearly I must have done a bit to get there but I am not now.

That 11.5 looks a tempter of a lay on Reid. His candidature would appear dead in the water. But I am always reluctant to disturb such a nice green book

Conversely I've seen various comments asking why he would fly to Edinburgh last night? Coyle's family are based in North Lanarkshire not Glasgow so Edinburgh would actually be closer for him.
Have you gents spotted the Ian Ridley comment that Coyle was seen in the tunnel 45 minutes after he was supposed to have left for his flight.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1240188/Coyle-bids-farewell-Burnley-Bolton-chairman-Gartsid
It seemed to me that planes don't fly immediately and that the Times commentary was there before the Mail. He just did not want to answer questions and that may go part of the way to answer where his odds where they are.
Lay Coyle at you peril, imo.
That view may not be the way to quick riches or to big losses but I think it sensible. There will be another manager market along in a while and we can just have a nudge at that or perhaps go in gung ho. But there is not panic today is there? Slow and steady.

I had my initial 1.45 lay matched early on but have long since greened up in anticipation of a more drawn out Burnley search.
As far as I'm concerned Coyle spoke to Celtic in the summer so I'm aware he'd look for a move but I'm still astonished he's leave in Jan but he's a smart cookie so I'm sure he's got it all worked out.. Maybe he thinks he'll give the new guy the chance to but in the transfer window.

I think that you are making this too complicated Ernesto.
It seems to me that you just need to play these markets in a certain way but just be patient.

Alex I may even be older than your old wrinkled retainer himself. I'm may not possess his wisdom but I've learnt that by following certain rules, I can make money on these markets. I'm sure I picked up one of these from yourself or GB both of whom demand respect in these markets. I'm a layer not a backer these days although I am cautious now not to be the last layer of the fav.
I have a question though which you or GB can choose to answer. At which point do you oppose the money. Hid*****was fairly obvious for the rules readers but how about Poyet or 'Arry. When do you decide to oppose for huge profit or stay neutral?

You oppose when you think that you are ahead of the news or sometimes when you see complete idiots putting up silly odds.

I never oppose big Erny. Oppose in moderation. I'm always annoyed because I've opposed the final favourite 'too much'.
But this only means cutting them back to the average green. Sometimes we all overdo it. I cut Ancelotti back from £6.5k to £600. That was excessive, and came from being a little impatient.

I note that between myself, Alex, and Ernesto Guevara we never seem to know who the manager is going to be.
Perhaps that is the best advice to give anyone on these markets

I never think anything as firm as that. I just think that sometimes certain choices would be dangerous to oppose. ;)

well i said from the off Coyle would be favourite. Ive obviously followed this market closely being off work last week also helped. Coyle is my smallest green by some way. Him getting the job will be greater than any financial gain as i may finally be able to enjoy the match once more. If he doesnt get it i will be quids in. Ive managed to create a nice green on Jewell, Warnock, oleary and dowie in case the worst does happen

I think that you are right. Skybet dropped their odds to 1.2 earlier. Lads went to 1.17 but sky usually are ahead of the game and the Lads compiler is under the thumb.

Hope Coyle works out for you Mighty Whites. I'm assuming he has been guaranteed more funds at Bolton than were on offer at Celtic in the summer...
And thank you for your sagacity gents. Very welcome as always. I've learned about the lucrative nature of hoovering iin the early days of the market. Unless there is a Tony Adams/Portsmouth shoo-in scenariothose early hours/days can be where you can make most cash.
Talking of which I've been having a few thoughts regarding Burnley. Steve Davis from within the club seems to be attracting attention from within Burnley. A Sbragia style appointment perhaps? I've also noticed that Mark Hughes might be in a compensation tussle with Citeh. A good early lay perhaps along with Peter Reid who only seemed to be mentioned here because of his Bolton links. Maybe worth considering a Scottish option too remembering where Coyle (St Johnstone) came from. Maybe some decent early prices on John Hughes?
Burnley are also reckoned to be skint so a hefty compensation payment to another English club may not be an option as the OC payment may be needed for players.

I thought Burnley were the ones with pots of cash but hugely reluctant to spend it? I may be wrong.
I would not oppose Curbs for a single cent. He would agree to manage Helmand Province if they found themselves in the Premier League. Mind you, they are based in the south

Burnley might not be in debt but that doesn't mean they have loads of cash. Apparently they can't afford to sign Nugent because of the cost of his wages, so can only keep him on loan. They have a salary cap of £15k per week and a buget of £5M to spend in January.
Their other issue is the lack of a sugar daddy to stick a bit of cash in when they need it. Bolton have this in Eddie Davies but Brendon Flood the Bolton chair saw his property company go down earlier in the year.

Burnley are a very wise and well run club then. £3m from Bolton may be very nice for them, if that is the figure, particularly with a proven relegation-avoider queueing up for a job

I guess it depends on the definition of skint. Not having loads of cash isn't skint in my opinion. I think they're tight rather than skint. If they refuse to pay high wages and have no debt repayments then I'm sure they'll be doing ok with their Premier League revenue.

Didn't take a lot to do so though. I reckon there are a large number of people who have got on sub 1.3 and are currently cacking it. It won't take a lot for them to want to get there cash out.
Curbs is of course an interesting diversion as all along he was said to be down for an interview today. Is this the reason for the delay?

I just think burnley have been very naive here hayemaker. Why they gave Coyle permission to speak before agreeing set compensation is beyond me. Now they have put him on gardening leave Bolton are obviously playing hardball over the compensation. With Saturdays game likely to be postponed there isnt any great rush.
The 14 day delay is possible as Bolton think the compensation is a million and burnley 3.6 million. 14 days would take us past the Boltpon Burnley match which will be an interesting affair

Burnley chiefs hope Davis will stay 10:40am Thursday 7th January 2010
BURNLEY are hoping club legend Steve Davis will stay at Turf Moor, and not follow Owen Coyle to Bolton.
It is understood the wantaway Clarets boss, who has been placed on gardening leave until a compensation deal has been thrashed out with the Trotters, has enquired about first team coach Davis joining him once his move is finalised.
Davis, and goalkeeping coach Phil Hughes, have been placed in charge of first team matters ahead of Saturdays visit of Stoke. And Burnley hope the former captain, who made almost 400 appearances over three spells, will not be tempted away.
It is tricky to know whether to put this on the Bolton fred or the Burnely fred so I will do both:http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/4837929.Burnley_chiefs_hope_Davis_will_stay/Burnley chiefs hope Davis will stay10:40am Thursday 7th January 2
