Antonio Brown's long, strange journey will soon take him to a new home after he signed with the New England Patriots following his release from the Oakland Raiders on Saturday.
Master Tesfatsion of Bleacher Report broke the news on the seven-time Pro Bowler. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal could be worth up to $15 million and contains a $9 million signing bonus. Brown never intended to play a single down for the Raiders. This was all pre-arranged. It went down like clockwork, just like eberyone knew it would. Brown's behaviour sums up all that's wrong with these elite guys. They have all the power in negotiations, on occasion think they're above the law and seem more interested in making splashes on social media than actually playing the game that pays them handsomely for their god given talents.
It's an easy decision for the Pats but it definitely leaves a sour taste if this move has been engineered to happen all along, as has been indicated. What's to stop other players doing the same? |

Newly acquired New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown is accused of raping his former trainer, as the New York Times reported graphic details about three separate incidents pertaining to sexual assault and rape involving Brown and the woman.
In the lawsuit, the woman alleges Brown "exposed himself and kissed her without her consent" in the first incident in June of 2017. In the second incident she alleges "Later that month, Brown, while positioned behind her, began masturbating near her without her knowledge and ejaculated on her back". The women then claimed Brown a year later on May 20th, 2018, "cornered her, forced her down onto a bed, pusher her face into the mattress, and forcibly raped her." The pending case is a federal lawsuit filed with the Southern District Court of Florida and at this time does not involve criminal chargers. Part of the lawsuit reads "Brown preyed on Ms. Taylor’s kindness and her religious devotion, casting himself as a person equally dedicated to his religious faith and someone she could trust... In reality, he used manipulation and false promises to lure her into his world, and once there, he sexually assaulted and raped her." |

In early 2019 Brown hired Stefano Tedeschi, a central Florida mainstay known as “Chef Stef,” to cook for him and his friends in a rented Florida mansion during Pro Bowl week in Orlando. When Brown asked Tedeschi if he’d be willing to host a party with 40-50 other Pro Bowlers at the home, Tedeschi warned him that he’d charge by the head. “He came up and asked me and he was very sweet about it,” Tedeschi says. Brown told him: “I’m not worried about money. That’s not an issue, you know that.’ ” Tedeschi says that, as service people tending to various aspects of the vacation rental came in and out of the house throughout the week, he overheard Brown say on more than one occasion, “Get those m-----f---ing crackers out of here.” Tedeschi’s wife raised concerns with her husband when she heard Brown openly referring to women at the festivities as “f---ing b-----s.” During the party, a handful of players, including Brown, were using the top floor to host women, Tedeschi says. Several players openly smoked marijuana. Meanwhile, Brown’s children were in attendance. The next day, Tedeschi says, one of Brown’s personal assistants, whom the chef identified as Brian Davis, told him, “When you speak to Mr. Brown you don’t look him in the eye.” Stunned, the 55-year-old Tedeschi ignored the man, who was some 30 years his junior. Don't think the superbowl market has caught up, Patriots still around 4.5 - 5 most places. 8.4 on here before they landed him, into about 6.2 - 6.4 after they signed him and then into 4.7 on the back of easy wins against two bad teams. Without Brown, those wins alone don't justify a nearly 50% reduction on their pre-AB starting price.
Probably done for the season but he's so good someone will take a chance on him at some point, the Panthers for example have never had a premium WR talent in the Newton era. Tank the season, get Cam healthy, a high draft pick and Brown next year, who knows. The thought of healthy Cam, CMac and Brown gets me excited. |
