The country doesn't pay them though. There won't be change without a conversation and whatever people think of him, his actions are certainly generating a conversation. The argument that his profession and his salary means he should be silent on social issues is bullsh1t. If he was campaigning to raise money for orphans or a cure for breast cancer you wouldn't think this way but because it's political he should be quiet? Can't agree with this.

I don't personally have a problem with the protesting. He's in a position of great influence where by he can transcend a message of needed change to a huge audience and raise awareness. What I do have a problem with however is only kneeling during the anthem. Whats that suppose to solve? You're just highlighting an already highlighted problem. If your going to draw national spotlight and kneel during the anthem, go and speak to the police during the week, go and spend time with the people your standing up for, start building bridges for change. Don't just kneel for 90 seconds before a game so you dominate ESPN's sportcentre for a week

Kaepernick is protesting the fact that he isn't the starter anymore.
He's just trying to stay relevant. |
By:
he couldn't care less
By:
He just pulled a stunt hoping the 49ers would trade him.
He's to dumb to realise that the 49ers can't get rid of him now because of how bad it would look PR wise. |
By:
Very cynical nugget.
By:
truth can hurt sometimes
The last thing Kaepernick wants done is to have some light shed on the issue with some cold hard facts. |
By:
What facts would they be?
By:
I don't think he really understands how big the issue is and now his only option is to continue on with his protest. At least he stays relevant for the time being. He probably thinks losing his starters gig has something to do with the team(and everyone) being racist or something is my guess.

What data? Are you suggesting American doesn't have a problem with police shooting unarmed black people?
By:
are you suggesting it's an epidemic?
so if cops stop shooting black people in America then black people in Americas troubles are over, all their problems are solved? |
By:
All their troubles, no. You make a comment that the last thing Kap wants is cold hard facts, but when asked what the facts are all you do is deflect. I don't think you know what you are talking about.
By:
you want me to dig up the data? I'm watching football
By:
Yeah righto. Enjoy.
By:
I just dont see how Kaeprnicks actions are contructive
By:
Which is all anyone opposed needs to say. Far better than referring to facts you don't know exist.
By:
the facts are there, you know they actually keep track of crime related stuff

the truth is as a black person in America you're much more likely to be killed by another black person than a cop. it's not even close

Show me a country where death by police is more common than murder. FFS. |

what's your point?

I'm gonna bow out now. You are either on the wind up or a lost cause. Enjoy the game.

Virtue signalling is the expression or promotion of viewpoints that are especially valued within a social group, especially when this is done primarily to enhance the social standing of the speaker.
By:
For example, expressing a hatred of the conservative newspaper Daily Mail might be an example of virtue signalling on the British left. The term is chiefly used by commentators to criticize the platitudinous and empty or superficial support of socially progressive views on social media, but has also been used to describe analogous behaviour in other groups, such as pro-gun rights grandstanding among the American right, and by signalling theorists to discuss conspicuous piety among the religious faithful as well as agnostics and atheists

I take it you started out on the BEERS Nugget! And ended up on Treble JACK D and COKE.......
What a hilarious thread this is, And started out on a rather serious topic! One well worth discussing! Personally think Kap was trying to do the right thing, possibly didnt realise how it would snowball in media etc! Aforementioned Media is now a HUGE HUGE problem for the Police Depts in USA. People videoing there every move, some of those moves happen to be murdering innocent citizens! |

The police wear body cams idiot
By:
The Police wear body Cams and hold on to the Footage until absolutely no alternative but to release!
In the vain hope it may exonerate them of there CRIMES.. The several Ive seen lately unfortunately have done the EXACT opposite. You utter IMBECILE! |
By:
why are black massively overrepresented in America when it come to violent crimes and incarceration?
is it the police's fault |
By:
its the root cause of this that needs to be discussed and rectified

2pac spoke truth, some say he was taken out because he was too real.
2pac - Changes (recorded in 1992/released in 1998) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay9BWM8lwOA Come on come on I see no changes. Wake up in the morning and I ask myself, "Is life worth living? Should I blast myself?" I'm tired of bein' poor and even worse I'm black. My stomach hurts, so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch. Cops give a damn about a negro? Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero. Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares? One less hungry mouth on the welfare. First ship 'em dope and let 'em deal to brothers. Give 'em guns, step back, and watch 'em kill each other. "It's time to fight back", that's what Huey said. 2 shots in the dark now Huey's dead. I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin' changes. Learn to see me as a brother 'stead of 2 distant strangers. And that's how it's supposed to be. How can the Devil take a brother if he's close to me? I'd love to go back to when we played as kids but things changed, and that's the way it is Come on come on That's just the way it is Things'll never be the same That's just the way it is aww yeah [Repeat] I see no changes. All I see is racist faces. Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races we under. I wonder what it takes to make this one better place... let's erase the wasted. Take the evil out the people, they'll be acting right. 'Cause both black and white are smokin' crack tonight. And only time we chill is when we kill each other. It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other. And although it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready to see a black President, uhh. It ain't a secret don't conceal the fact... the penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks. But some things will never change. Try to show another way, but they stayin' in the dope game. Now tell me what's a mother to do? Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you. You gotta operate the easy way. "I made a G today" But you made it in a sleazy way. Sellin' crack to the kids. "I gotta get paid, " Well hey, well that's the way it is. We gotta make a change... It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes. Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live and let's change the way we treat each other. You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do what we gotta do, to survive. And still I see no changes. Can't a brother get a little peace? There's war on the streets and the war in the Middle East. Instead of war on poverty, they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me. And I ain't never did a crime I ain't have to do. But now I'm back with the facts givin' 'em back to you. Don't let 'em jack you up, back you up, crack you up and pimp smack you up. You gotta learn to hold ya own. They get jealous when they see ya with ya mobile phone. But tell the cops they can't touch this. I don't trust this, when they try to rush I bust this. That's the sound of my tool. You say it ain't cool, but mama didn't raise no fool. And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped and I never get to lay back. 'Cause I always got to worry 'bout the payback. Some buck that I roughed up way back... comin' back after all these years. Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat. That's the way it is. uhh Some things will never change Well 2pac, America did get a black president (from Chicago, not african-american in the historical sense but still, progress) but you'd be sad to know there wasn't any change, after 8 years the only change the people are left with is a little bit of change in their pocket. It's a shame 2pac isn't here, a true voice of change, I'm sure he would help shed light on the current situation in an eloquent way that Kaepernick never can. Also Kaepernick was adopted and raised by white parents so I don't think he's speaking wholly from experience and maybe he's just learning these things now. Ok Kap we got it, there's a problem, we knew this already but good work buddy, fight the good fight. But if you're going to take up the fight at least be constructive. Maybe start with how the country can rack up such a massive debt but can't find the money to spend on inner city schools which are in very bad condition. |

On a positive note it should be said that the major sporting organisations do some very good community work especially for at risk communities by giving back through numerous programs.
I've also noticed there are many individual players who take an interest in their local communities and use their profile to give hope and opportunities to the youth through their own personal foundations and co-op programs. Not really big news but should be commended. |
