6 weeks in and we're starting to get an idea of who the contenders are. Bengals look sensational to me, excellent on both sides and Dalton an MVP candidate. The obvious one to challenge the Pats and Packers for me but have they peaked too soon? Think the Panthers could be another, very good defensively and in Newton they have a genuine superstar at QB imo, that 4th quarter on the road in Seattle the type of performance that deep playoff runs can be built on. Are the Broncos more or less dangerous as a defensive powerhouse as opposed to a shoot the lights out bunch??

Early days of course and injuries will play their part as the season rolls on, but all shaping up nicely.

Patriots still look the best team in the NFL and should be clear favourites from the Packers for me.....

Bengals have had a VERY talented roster for a few years now but what's held them back is the play of the quarterback under the bright lights of primetime....agree Dalton looks different and has been excellent this season BUT the doubt will always be there until he shows he can get it done in crunch time in the play offs....

Can't have Cam Newton as being a superstar QB and will never be an elite QB for me cos he's not good enough in the pocket.

Haven't seen enough of the Broncos but Mannings stats are scary and that's before the cold weather sets in and we saw how much his arm had deteriorated last winter.

Packers offence is not a Packers offence of years gone by at the moment....Rodgers is struggling a bit without a few of his receivers and Lacy  being nowhere near fit.....the thing that i was wary of pre season is ringing true in the games that count...ie no downfield threat without Nelson and they're struggling to stretch the field like years gone by.....but hey ho they're 6-0 and they usually get better throughout the year Happy

Six weeks gone already...doesn't time fly

I am a Cowboys fan but I think it's time to back them for the Superbowl at 50.0 on the exchanges and I have been at 55.0 as I genuinely think they will still win their division, then it's an easy trade. If they can beat The Giants on Sunday then I think they will win the division, I see it as that big a game and I think they will get the job done. The following game is the Seahawks which is almost a bonus game as they won't see it as a do or die game, they then have the Eagles and then the Bucs - Romo might be back thereafter. The Bucs are no great shakes the Cowboys really have to be winning that game and I have yet to be fully convinced by the Eagles this season. For me the Cowboys clearly have the most talented team in the division when they all teams have their big boys fit and by the Eagles game The Cowboys should have all of their big hitters back except Romo and I think Cassel will do an excellent job in terms of being a system quarterback - I can see regulation slants to Beesley and some nice deep balls thrown to Terrance Williams etc. Hardy looked an absolute beast against the Pats and it's scary to think what he will be like once he is in full flow given that was his first competitive game for a good long while and he will be an even bigger threat when Randy Gregory is charging in from the other side which will hopefully be this Sunday. Sean Lee and Rolando McClain are both in full working order in a strong looking linebacking corp. The Cowboys look up against it at the moment but I think they will be looking good to win the division heading into December. My main worry looking forwards is the running back situation - i don't think Randle has the power to be the main back, McFadden has struggled so it will be interesting to see how Christine Michael gets on.

Elsewhere I think the Steelers are interesting in the AFC and are the one team I think could challange the Patriots if their defense improves during the season as their offense will be smoking hot once Big Ben comes back in.

Because I want to bet more than £25 and also to trade on here. If they beat the Giants they will be under 40.0 regardless and if the Panthers beat the Eagles I would imagine they will be between 28.0-34.0.

Fair enough mate. It is pretty much now or never if you want to be on the Cowboys at a big price this year, next 3 weeks are crucial - Giants away, Seahawks at home, Eagles at home. They have a fair run home so if they can win 2 of the next 3 and be 4-4, will be sitting pretty for when they get back to full strength.

Cowboys have some very nice pieces, but at 2-6 you gotta wonder if they would be better off raising the white flag on this year and getting some nice draft picks next year to help out Romo and Dez.

What do people make of the Kaepernick situation? Any teams likely to take a punt on him next year?

Colin Kaep came in and really took the place by storm.   He ousted Smith, and looked like he could win them a Championship.   However hey had a great offensive line at that time, good targets in crabtree and Davis and Gore gave them a balanced attack.

Teams were not used to read plays and his athleticism got so many yards and crucial 3rd downs on the ground.

The 49ers team has fallen apart, they cover the read option and force CK to throw, that is not his strong point.

Two big blows to the Patriots offence in back to back weeks ...losing Lewis and Edelman would be a hammer blow for most offences but we all know Belichick and Brady will figure something out

Totally agree about the Cardinals Grayhawk. They are easy to root for, and I am particularly pleased that  Larry Fitzgerald is enjoying a great season. While the AFC, has a familiar look with the dominance of New England, the NFC is crazy. Still think that when the dust settles, Green Bay will make it to San Fran. Could not have imagined they would trail Minnesota, entering this stage of the season though.

If Chip Kelly is still in charge of the Eagles next season, I think Colin Kaepernick would be an ideal fit to his system.

Having flagged up the Cowboys several weeks back they have only won a single game since yet remain a similar price which just illustrates the state of the Giants, Eagles and Redskins! I think after Thanksgiving the Eagles will be an afterthought and if the Cowboys can beat the Panthers it will be a shootout between then and the Giants with the latter still very much in control.

I think the loss of form/injuries to Eddie Lacy have played a big part in the Packers' problems in recent games. He looked pretty good against the Vikings and the Pack looked decent as a result - I agree Nelson is a big loss but the Pack can still win the Superbowl without him if Lacy pulls his finger out.

With the exception of the Cardinals these teams were in a lot of pundits top 6 current power rankings.   Apart from steelers these teams had qualified, so was it a lack of focus or something deeper.

Whatever your view Cardinals emerged this week as series contenders and even have a shot of home field advantage throughout playoffs.

Another twist in a great season.  Managed to get a few quid on Vikings at 50s this morning to add to the outright market....  unlikely but 50/1 for most playoff teams at this stage seems fair.

Not guaranteed that Jets win in Buffalo next weeken.   So chance to bet Steelers at 25/1 if you think this week was a blip.

Early thoughts....

Steelers @  Bengals - a couple of weeks ago I would have been all over the Steelers here but tbf in the last couple of weeks when they needed to get it done they have not looked that dynamic on offence and certainly give up points.   A lot will depend on if Dalton is back.    As per further up this thread I had a little on Pittsburgh at 25/1 last week but I see this as a coin toss and hence if I was having a bet (which I am not), I would take the Bengals plus the points (assuming Dalton is back)

Seahawks @ Vikings - The only real thing that has changed since Seattle dominated the Vikings in December is the loss of Rawls.  However, seahawks should have Lynch back for this so even if not at 100% seattle should be able to move the ball here.   AP was completely shutdown  and can see that happening again, doubt Teddy will be able to match pace with Seattle scoring.   Take Seahawks -4.5

Green Bay @ Washington - I can never get Green Bay right, so I won't be having a bet in this.   Green Bay have been horrible lately and Washington 'seem' to have come good.  Confidence if high but if you look at their schedule I dont think they have beaten a single team with a winning record this year!!  If I had to bet, I would bet packers to somehow get over the line.

Chiefs @ Texans - No idea
Report ClayDavis January 4, 2016 4:07 PM GMT
I'm all over the Chiefs here. I don't think they are getting the credit they deserve for winning 10 straight on the bounce - including a win over Denver in Denver.
They have already won easily in Houston in week one. They might be getting Tamba Ali and Justin Houston back next week. The Texans best offensive line man us out for the year now so that is a huge blow to them.
The Texans are 4-6 outside their division. They only won their division because luck got injured. The Patriots have been awful the past month yet still went into Houston and won easy.
The Chiefs are a better all round team and will win easy.

Swardean I hear what you are saying re the steelers. But at the end of the day this will come down to Big Ben v McCarron and I know who my money is on. McCarron didn't convert a single 3rd down on Sunday. The last team the Bengals wanted to see was the steelers.
Antonio a Brown us still playing lights out football. An outstanding player.

My wildcard weekend thoughts:

If you held a gun to my head now and said I must bet on all four games I would say the road teams will win all four games. When was the last time - if ever - all four road teams won on wildcard weekend?

Green Bay @ Washington
Losing the division actually was no bad thing for the packers. On the road to Washington and then to Arizona if they win. The packers have been a mess for a while now but ultimately this game will come down to whether you trust Rodgers or Cousins? The Redskins have been quite poor against the run this season and their secondary isn't great so it gives the packers offense a chance. It will all come down to whether the packers offensive line can protect Rodgers and whether Eddie Lacey and James Starks can bring their A games. If they do then the Packers win IMHO

Seattle @ Minnesota
Although Seattle probably wins this I think this game will be a lot closer than the betting and many on here think.
I do like a team that learns and the Vikings certainly have. Beaten badly by the Packers at home, they learned, made adjustments, made improvements and gained revenge over the packers at the weekend.
They lost badly at home to Seattle when they were coming off that bruising lose to the packers.
Also they got behind early against the Seahawks and they were not equipped to come from behind the way they were set up.
They have made adjustments and they are now getting the ball out of Bridgewater's hands quicker. If they can do that at weekend that will open up lanes for AP too. But Seattle's front four are very strong and they will try and take AP out of the game and force Bridgewater to beat them.
Seattle have also not played a road play off game since Matty Ice iced them a few years ago.
In the last two NFC championship games in Seattle they were second best and only won because of opposition mistakes/meltdowns. Both those Seattle sides were better than this one.
Can they win on the road in the play offs? Will their offensive line hold up or start crumbling like it has for most of the season.
Remember this is a team carved to shreds by Carson Palmer at home and carved to shreds by Big Ben at home - people talk about their defence.......this is not even close to being the same defence they had in the previous three years.

Kansas @ Houston
I have made my feelings very clear on this game and I'm all over the Chiefs here. Hopkins is an excellent WR and a real threat but I expect Kansas to double up on him and take him out and force Hoyer to beat them through the air to other targets. I wouldn't trust Hoyer as far as I could throw him.
I think this Cheifs defence is for real and they have Ali and possibly Justin Houston coming back this week.
I like this Chiefs team and I like the balance they have. If any other team had won ten in a row people would be ranting and raving about them but the Chiefs have flown under the radar.

Steelers @ Cincinnati
I bow to no one in my love of this Steelers offence. I'm on them at massive prices for the super bowl. If Bell was fit for the play offs  I would say they were a cast iron cert to win the Super bowl - they have no had all their offensive weapons on the pitch at the same time this season.....such a shame.
While I think they will win this game a few things concern me.
I think it will benefit the Bengals being underdogs here. Taking the pressure off them and how they can't win play off games in recent years.
I would far rather Dalton was playing - from a steelers point of view. Dalton is a one and done play off quarter back and all the pressure would be on him. Plus facing the Steelers, a team he doesn't have a great record against. It's a prime dalton meltdown game.
Whereas with AJ McCarron it's almost a free shot. No pressure. People are expecting him to lose. He can almost come out swinging and take his shot.
He could be dangerous.
If Dalton is playing I'd be super confident about the steelers.
I think the steelers will win but I'm not as confident.

Report Sudoku_Junior January 6, 2016 9:53 PM GMT
I can't see Dalton starting Swardean, to be able to fully grip and put velocity on a football within a month of breaking your thumb would be some going imo even with the finest physio and rehab money can buy.

Wanted to be on the steelers but can't back them at that price, especially with the status of Deangelo Williams in doubt. An experienced pro at running back in the play offs is near enough essential imo (pats and S Jax) and he will be a big big loss if he is unable to make it, and i think that that is being overlooked at present. Add into that the fact it is against a division opponent, on the road who probably won't be too happy about seemingly being overlooked because of the injury to Dalton, i think the steelers are far too short. Would be a pick em for me.

Really really like Seattle which always puts me off as if something seems too good to be true it usually is. I just can't see Bridgewater beating Seattle in the air and they will bottle up AP. Seahawks have been rolling, and i now give this side the credit they deserve. I underestimated and underrated them in both the past two seasons. I won't be making the same mistake again.

Green bay is a tricky one, and i certainly won't be backing them at odds on. Im willing to look past there slump as they were seemingly always bound for the post season but where they would be ranked was the only question. Offensively they concern me, receivers just don't get separation and i personally feel they abandon the run game far too quickly. Lacy and starks are essential for this offence to fire. Rodgers will always have a majestic drive in him and they will never be out of the game while he is under centre, but this Washington team seem to have got something going, in terms of spirit and camaraderie, there is no doubt they have rallied around cousins and i don't think that can be discounted, but i suppose the question is can Kirk get it done in the playoffs. Looking like a wait and see game for me.

As always with play off football it will come down to who can hold their nerve at the most critical points.
