Jadevon clowney surely a good bet at 17/10 for 1st pick.
Surely the texans aren't going to pass him up for a QB? Or if they do feel they need a QB won't they try and trade the 1st pick?

They said they are taking a QB, but not necessarily with the 1st pick. Personally I think the best thing they could do with the #1 pick, in order, is:
1) Trade it 2) Take the best player (presumably Clowney) 3) Draft a QB Traditionally you tend to get good value trading away a top pick for a team that is desperate for it. Clowney & Watt may be a mouthwatering combo but the package of picks they would get in return would be worth more, on average (for example in 2012 the Redskins traded the #6 pick, a R2 pick and two more R1 picks for the #2 overall pick with which they took Robert Griffin). If they don't find any Redskin-esque mugs this year, Clowney seems a somewhat safe bet to be a good pass rusher for years to come. Reaching for a QB when there is no obvious top prospect this year just seems the type of desperation move that often ends in disaster. |

I'm sensing they don't really want Clowney. They are obviously desperate to trade down but I think if they were going to get a good value trade it would already have happened. Even if they took Clowney I think it would be more with a view of trading him than playing him. I wouldn't be surprised if they just stuck at #1 and picked Mack instead who seems to fit their defense better
It looks a high quality draft in just about every position except QB - which is a shame for all the teams wanting a QB |
