Two great games - football porn. Fancy a Denver v 49ers Super Bowl myself - although I hope Brady does it as I would be pretty confident of the 49ers knocking off the Pats in New York - Denver and Manning would be tougher imho.
Small matter of the Hawks first Cool

I would like to see the 49ers win not just from a financial perspective but I have the most respect for teams who can win tough matches on the road in the playoffs, fair play to the Ravens last season as well.

Financially I am all over the Seahawks since day one but I have to say I was impressed with the Patriots on Sunday. Wilson has to step up his game as Lynch cannot win the Superbowl on his own. One thing is for sure this weekends 2 games make for the best Championship matches in years.

If I was on the 49ers I think they'd be better off playing the Broncos. Brady is probably the best bad weather player ever. I think bad weather will effect the 49ers badly. Green Bay was not the same - it was cold, not windy and wet - the big danger in NY - totally different type of conditions. One that Brady is familiar with.

I had kind of written-off the Patriots because of injuries - you could argue, fully loaded they are the best team in the NFL - but the lesson I've learned this year, don't under-estimate good coaching....you can be sure they will have enough wrinkles and changes to trouble either Seahawks or 49ers at certain stages of the game, if they get there.

The above of course has two huge (or should that be MASSIVEHappy) assumptions on my part:
-- they will beat the Broncos in Mile HighConfused
-- bad weather in NYConfused

Wallflower - was it not really wet and windy when the 49ers tore the Pats a new one in Foxboro last season? I think it was. But my memory could be playing tricks with me of course Happy

.... I forgot about that.... it was raining anyway, not sure about wind. Good spot.

The thing is (and I don't think its a myth) I just have this repeated image of the Patriots usually winning in bad weather - whether through dominant play or very dodgy penalty calls.

It's difficult. I was thinking if I had a big wedge on the 49ers who would I prefer to avoid  Manning or Brady? For me it would be Brady.....even though Manning is probably the best technical QB, you just know Brady won't over extend.

(Having said that, I remember thinking (and betting) the Colts wouldn't win the Superbowl because the defense was too porous - and lo and behold this super bloody defense appears in the play-offsAngry. Not best pleased to say the least. The improved Broncos defense last weekend was eerily similar - mind you I think their defense is not as bad as portrayed).

Candlestick Park is a fairly windy stadium as well Grin
Report Wallflower January 15, 2014 5:17 PM GMT
.... ehmm, no it's not New York windy and cold - completely different.

.....anyway that's not the point, its more about your original point whether you thought Broncos or Patriots were a bigger threat to the 49ers in a potential Superbowl..... you think Broncos would be harder, which is fair enough - its hard to separate them in my view. Anyway, its only an opinion that can never really be verified.

I was a bit surprised - I think the 49ers would be more than a handful for Denver's defense. If its 49ers vs Broncos, I think 49ers will win it......  49ers v Patriots, I think it's 50-50.....though I'm sure others see it different.

(That's notwithstanding my point in previous post, and that the Broncos impersonate Colts and suddenly appear with a great defense in the play-offs).

I think the Broncos would be harder for the 49ers myself but hope Seattle pump them Grin

Bronchos beat the Pats , this is simply one game too many for the banged up Pats , Ball and Moreno will carve holes in the Rush Defense and Manning will make some big plays , can't see Pats keeping up scorewise if they do go behind , take Edelmen out of the game and Brady has no one to throw to , which means the run game and Denver decent at stopping that.

Also have a sneaky feeling 49's will beat the Seahawks as well.

Given that their has been no 'shock' result in this years playoffs imo. I think this is the week it happens, not that i would see any result in either of this weeks match ups as a 'shock'.

Wild card weekend - a case could have been made for each winning side.
Divisional weekend - I was expecting a shock result or two in their, but that all went to plan.

I just cant envisage both number one seeds contesting the superbowl.

Both broncos and seahawks should be favs on their home field. But Tom Brady at 11/5, to me it's just too big to turn down.
Report Wallflower January 17, 2014 5:17 PM GMT
...... what exactly would constitute a "shock" this weekConfused. Although Patriots are outsiders, given their history, beaten Broncos already, plus Harris injury for Broncos, it would hardly be a shock if they won.

I agree completely with you though 11/5 is a great bet on the Patriots, very big.

No Percy Harvin this weekend - smacked in the chops by the Saints - can't handle it. Memo to the 49ers....just watch the tape from last weekend and see what the Saints secondary did to these whimps
Report Swardean January 17, 2014 10:26 PM GMT
Did Harvin play in either game against 49ers in the regular season?

Apologies, Soduku....missed the clarification, but still.........

"Given that their has been no 'shock' result in this years playoffs imo. I think this is the week it happens, not that i would see any result in either of this weeks match ups as a 'shock'. "

translates to me as ...."I think there will be a shock this week, even though none of the possible results could be seen as a shock".

"Tom Brady too big at 11/5"...... does makes sense to me however. Mind you, Blount could be the main man in this match yet.

sward....think harvin played a few minutes around week 11/12 then had an attack of the vapours, so no
Report Sudoku_Junior January 18, 2014 1:15 PM GMT
Yeah reading it back it didn't make much sense what i said! What i was meaning is that pretty much all favs have won, and that this week, the odds suggest that people are expecting both the broncos and seahawks to win, hence a 'shock' if they don't.

I also like the 49ers but going on the road and beating green bay, then going on the road and beating carolina, to do it again on the road against the seahawks, it might be a step too far imo.

I think the Broncos and pats is shaping up to be a slightly lower scoring game than people expect also, i expect a heck of a lot of run plays from both sides.

Harvin played a couple of snaps against the Vikes - didn't play against SF yet this year.
Report DirkDiggler January 19, 2014 2:20 PM GMT
Percy Harvin is a waste of time, he'll never be/stay healthy.
