I get called a 20th century fogie by my kids!, but 2 days to bat on a slowish,good pitch-and 4 batters caught at longleg........thinking is all wrong imo-amI missing something?

This did make me chuckle - Ashes performance woeful rev, bu England's players have started believing the hype. For me its a question of mentality - the Aussies were great for many years due to the extra competition from within, and a national bloody-mindedness. England's players have the talent to be great but not the gumption. And as an aside, as a Durham supporter, the decision not to take Onions on tour is perhaps the poorest selectorial decision in my lifetime. I know it has left a very good bowler feeling pretty disillusioned.
