It's easy.  Back to basics.  Who's going to score the most points ?  I'm going with Houston.  Indy doesn't travel very well, Houston has a great defence.  Yes, great.  Their offence has been their problem.  Houston can zero in on Luck's 1 or 2 only targets.  I took them at 2.06, going to trade out for a 15% profit if I get the chance then watch the rest of the game in comfort.

yes I am planning to green out at much shorter odds than that
Report themightymac November 4, 2013 1:31 AM GMT
Cushing is more of a loss for Texans than Wayne is for Colts. All in on Indy.
Report Still standing November 4, 2013 1:32 AM GMT
Apologies to Bean, he posted the same topic while I was writing up my BS.

Another thing going for Houston.  Laugh if you want, but it's important.  Field position.  It looks like there will be several punts this game, and Houston has the better punter. Of course people who are just casual bettors will chuckle at that, but, that's why they're casual bettors and serious non winners.

Thank you very much.  Good luck tonight guys.  I'm out.  If Indy comes back to win the game, I consider my pick of Houston as a win.

ive just realised ive got a bet on houston to win over 10.5 games. i just need them to win the last 9 in a row!
Report Still standing November 4, 2013 1:43 AM GMT
This is the N F L.  Lots of time I wish I didn't get out early. But, the fumble, pick 6 etc. Those 15 % really add up.
Report sideshowbob November 4, 2013 1:45 AM GMT
im sure they do but what happens when it goes tits up and you back a team thats never in the game?
Report sideshowbob November 4, 2013 1:47 AM GMT
im also a whopping 12k red on indy, amongst others, for the superbowl, so i suppose i should want houston to win this.

i want 34 points first though.
Report wisewords November 4, 2013 1:48 AM GMT
hey bob, who you tipping for the bowl then?
Report Still standing November 4, 2013 1:51 AM GMT
That doesn't happen very often Bob.  I almost always bet in play.  I just bet the standouts like this one pre game.  Of course sometimes they lose without ever a chance of getting out.  That's the way it goes.
Report sideshowbob November 4, 2013 1:52 AM GMT
this game has started fkn nuts.

no idea tbh. i started off backing denver and san francisco big pre-season. back a few more since then though. i suppose i'd stick with those if i had to say. both got a struggle on to win their divisions though. green bay look serious challengers.

Report Wallflower November 4, 2013 2:01 AM GMT
Looking forward to this drive now......Texans D will be pumped, Colts (without Wayne) will have to a least get a FG to calm the storm they are facing right now.

its only 1.23, but obviously more to the point i dont wanna lose the 500 bucks. already lost 500 today on the saints. bloody annoying cos i was gonna do the points (which won easily) but something popped in my head and said 1.42 the saints was a good price. its not too bad, cos i made about 360 on dallas and new england. and im about 200 on football this weekend too. could have really done without backing the saints though. every time i back them, they lose. theyre my jinx team. why did i do it????

do you never trade out if you cant get your 15% then? or do you take a loss at some point?
Report Still standing November 4, 2013 2:03 AM GMT
If indy goes up early, I sit tight because I analyzed the game and like Houston to win.  If it was against an inferior opponent, I'd take some more.  If Indy goes on to win, I lose 10$ of my bankroll.  It's happened before, it'll happen again. I come back and try it another time.

I layed Texans at 1.04 with half my green.  I do it automatically these days sub 1.1 (NFL, tennis, cricket)......I give away bits of profit but it pays off handsomely over a period of time.

NFL play-offs last year was incredible last year.
Report Colldogg November 4, 2013 4:52 AM GMT
Jesus, I feel VERY, VERY, VERY Lucky there. I was waiting on the Colts at -1 for a handicap treble with the patriots and the panthers today. I almost went to bed in the 3rd quarter thinking the bet was down easily. How the Colts pulled that back I don't know. Guess it was Kubiak going at half time, Texans were very conservative in the 2nd half.

I feel very embarrassed picking up that bet. Colts were very poor even given the dodgy decisions they got from roughing the kicker and the strip that was overturned.  Rams could be very good value against the Colts next week.
Report Swardean November 4, 2013 7:14 AM GMT

Nothing surprises me in gambling but tbh I had gave up on that one. Not only bet the Colts at the start but also piled on when they were getting gubbed. Virtually gave up on the bets 3rd quarter and turned off. Went to bet a couple of horses on bookie accounts and wondered where all the extra money had come from. Grin Surely not, I thought? Incredible!!

Hank is right, but to say it was a pleasant surprise is an understatement. Crazy

More importantly, I hope Mr Kubiak is well.

It is true, you never know in NFL/NCAA. I thought it was dead @ HT too, nearly went to bed. Same with KC game, nailed on to go 21-7 down, 5 seconds later 14-14. I think when betting football, i think it is important to remember the times when lady luck s*cks me off, because she's been farting in my face with alarming regularity over the last few weeks.
Report themightymac November 4, 2013 6:45 PM GMT
Yes DD, never a truer word spoken. 9 times out of 10 it will happen against you. That`s why it makes sense to lay off at these silly prices when well ahead. I layed them as low as 1.1 and tbh, I thought I was giving the value away. When you get on a bad run like you say, it`s very difficult to break the trend. Lady Luck seems to conspire against you in every way possible to beat you in the most unpredictable of circumstances. KC was a right sickener for you and anybody else who bet the Bills. Tuer doesn`t make that daft throw and imo KC`s unbeaten run comes to an end. Gambling can scramble one`s brain at times. Hope you get the monkey off your back soon.
Report d13phe November 4, 2013 6:50 PM GMT
yes, laying off is pretty big in NFL

nothing more frustrating when you cannot get out of your bet when you can see what is coming a mile off.
Report themightymac November 4, 2013 7:50 PM GMT

....Yeah it's really risky getting greedy and letting things take their course. Actually KC went my way, I probably wasn't clear enough on that, with Indy doing the business for me I wonder if that marks a turn around. I had something like no TD's for 6 quarters in NCAAF this past weekend. There's nothing like an unlucky run in 'football' because the game has many ways things can go wrong, or right. Soccer just isn't the same, far fewer variables, IMO. I had a bit on Oakland Sunday, never in the game got battered, didn't upset me one bit. I got it totally wrong.

A couple of those calls in the Indy game were mystifying, how do you miss that foul on the punter, or overturn that fumble recovery?  Then later it transpires Pagano could have challenged that punt call and didn't know! those things send me round the twist.

Tbh though I always do better 2nd half of the season and playoffs, and the college bowl games.

Always be happy with some profit, and then relax.
