This is going to one emotional night in Philly. First, Kansas coach Andy Reid returns to Philly for the first time since losing his job as head coach to the Eagles for 14 years.
And second, the Eagles are going to the retire the number 5 shirt as Donovan McNabe gets inducted into the hall of fame.
Andy Reid is coming here with a point to prove. He is an excellent head coach who was very unfairly sacked by the Eagles at the end of last season. Ok the last two seasons weren't great but he has taken them to five NFL championship games and one Super Bowl in his time in Philly. The Eagles are going to find out very soon that their problems were nothing to do with Andy Reid.
If you had read my week 2 thread I was against the Eagles against San Diego. I was against the Eagles in week one also. I was convinced their defense would get shown up as it had done in preseason. The Redskins were completely inept against the Eagles but thankfully Phillip Rivers and the Chargers showed everyone just how bad the Eagles defense is.
And I can see the Chiefs exploiting it too. QB Alex Smith is an excellent 'game manager' and I can see him using quick slants and routes all day long to expose this dodgy secondary. He did this to great effect against the Cowboys, in which the Chiefs prevailed in dogfight.
People will point to the Eagles offense, and yes it has started the season well. There are explosive players on the offense capable of winning games on their own. But can they be expected to score 30-40 points every game in order just to win matches?
Also Andy Reid knows everything about Michael Vick. He knows his strengths and weaknesses. He knows that Vick's stats drop significantly when he plays against a defense with a good pass rush. And Reid has that at the Chiefs. The Chiefs defense has already got NINE sacks in the first two games of this season. Reid will be bringing the house against Vick.
I like the Chiefs' defense. They have got a lot of players back from injury and Reid is building a team capable of holding their own.
I expect the Chiefs' D to keep them in this, with Smith cute enough to expose a shocking Eagles secondary and recorded a narrow win for Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Medium bet (£20 for Wallflower's purposes) on the Kansas City Chiefs +3 at 21-20

Three successive bets against the Eagles......Confused....mmmm, do I detect some negative feeling towards Vick - McCoy - Jackson?

Wallflower - negativity against their defense yes - a massive yes. Vick is Vick. Reid knows his flaws. McCoy is excellent. Jackson is a turd

IMO, Chiefs have no chance. They are on the up, yes, and will do ok this season. They have a good coach and best qb since Joe Montana and their defence have only gave up 1TD in 2 games. However, they face a different proposition tonight against the Eagles. Vick (arguably back to his best) and McCoy are on fire right now and Kansas will struggle against such a potent offence. Sure Reid knows Philadelphia, but Eagles know Reid. They are hurting after a narrow defeat by Chargers and Vick will be out to show Reid up. Easy win for Philly for me.

Any thoughts on the Chargers torching this appalling Eagles D for well over 500 yards at the weekend?

Back to lay Chiefs.

I'm on the overs, and I'd take the points if was having a 'cap bet. Eagles defense is terrible.

The Chiefs were not a 2-14 team last year, their talent level was far better than that, they improved @ QB by huge margin, and they'll show that was a false record last year over the course of the season.

Eagles beat themselves. 4 stupid turnovers first half in their own half. Not many teams in NFL can do that and still win. Yet, they nearly did. 3rd down Smith completed on his own goal line 4th qt was a match winner. Big improvement from Philadelphia defence but those quick slants by Chiefs made them look foolish. Well done Chief backers.

The Eagles just aren't very good, take out the 1st half against what looks like one of the worst defenses in the game (skins) and they have been awful.

Correct Dirk, they gave a decent 'impression' of a serious team in W1 but the reality is that both themselves and the redskins are fairly ah!t. Most books still continue to overestimate both teams so there's value to be had for punters.
